Help... My car died.

So I put a new battery on the mazda and tried to crank it up and it didnt act like it wanted to start. On the second try it cranked up and shot quite a bit of smoke out of the tail pipes for about 5 seconds. So I let it idle for a minute and then took it down the street, I drove maybe a quarter mile and the shift light came on at 3000 rpms and then it died on me.

Now it wont start at all.

Anybody have any idea whats going on?

Check the 15 amp Engine fuse in the interior fuse box.

EDIT: You could tell if the Engine fuse is blown if the Main relay doesn't click w/key to on, the Black/Yellow wire at the coils don't have power w/key to on or if the Black/White wire at any of the emission solenoids don't have power w/key to on.

The 15 amp engine fuse is good.
I tried to start it again and it turns over, but the engine wont crank up. It did start for about half a second before the rpms went back to zero...

Ill try to push start it later today when I can get some help.

You can disconnect the harness to the fuel pump and spray some starter fluid into the intake duct for two to three seconds and then try to start the car. If the car starts up it would perhaps point to a fuel problem.

Alright guys,

Just tried to push start it without success. It didnt seem like it was even close to starting.

Does this already indicate a fuel problem or should I still try the starter fluid thing? (dont have any handy at the moment)

What do yall think?

I hope she can be brought back to life

Could be a number of things. It's up to you whether you want to purchase starter fluid or not. It won't hurt and it will provide you w/some feedback regarding your problemed car.

Basics Watson. Download a copy of the FSM.

Then test for fuel per the procedure listed.

If you have the proper fuel pressure/quantity then test for spark.

Ok,

Just got some starter fluid and sprayed some in the intact duct and forgot to disconnect the fuel pump harness.

Tried to crank it up and it cranked right up.
Then it didn't die.
I let it idle for about 5 minutes then I drove it to a closer parking spot to my apt.

So what do yall think about this?

Thanks for the help guys!

Your car is haunted. Or just maybe it's something else. Just see how things play out and report back if you continue to have problems. Just for the heck of it clean up the ground in the rear that goes to the fuel pump. The pump connects to a plug which has four wires with one of them being Black as in the ground wire.
