Get a real voltmeter and measure the voltage across the battery terminals while the engine's running. If it's not at least 14V, your alternator is shot. Take it off and have it rebuilt.

make sure all the wires are in good condition on the alternator to battery, no loose wires.

sounds alot like alt, but it's electrical, could be anything (especially on a 12+ year old car)

My battery reads over 14 volts only when the engine is revving a little, not at idle. It reads somewhere around 12.6 at idle.

I just had the alternator checked and they said it was good.

Mines the same way and I have a new battery and a new S5 alternator.

I just bought an Optima yellow, the battery survived the trip from Atlanta to Jacksonville (396 miles) with a bad alternator, and started up the next morning!

I found out it was a loose connection and the battery charges fine now, but holy smokes, I didn't expect this from any battery.
