help me out please

ok i posted something like this on the first generation and all i did was got flamed... i thought u would help me out more.. i have a 84 gsl but i'm look towards getting a 88-90 rx-7 ( non-turbo).. i don't know **** about cars or anything like that..and i have about 3k to spend on the car how nice of a rx-7 can i get with that much? i did a little research and found some of the flaws with the second generations models.. like the wiring or somthing is messed up or goes out quickly.. can u explain what that is and is it a major cost to fix? and r their any other flaws with the 2nd generation.. another question is r the rx-7s heavier than my 84 gsl.. and if so do they make it up in hp with the 13b motor.. i want a non-turbo but i still want to get into the 13's is this somthing that can be easy done with not to much money ( 2k ).... any info or suggestions would help alot thanks for all your input..

you could get a nice 89-91 non turbo but to get into the 13s without nos all motor is hard and they weigh more then your 84 they way around 2700 i believe, my turbo 2 is gutted with a fuel sell so i am not sure what kind of weight it should be but power options add alot of weight, your better off getting a turbo2, easier to get into 13s with...just getting them to run 13s without many problems and your own driving is the hard part, when mines together running right i can pull high 12s on 205/50 16inch street tires...i just have problems with my car running right for a long amount of time, something new always breaks...

not sure what your definition of flamed is but i wouldn't agree at all. they told you what you could do with a 1st gen and the possibilities. you come in saying "i know nothing about cars and want a 13 sec car and have $2 to do it with". be careful who's toes you step on. i'll say the same thing. unless you spring for a tII, 13's are going to cost quite a bit and will require work from you. otherwise a gsl-se is your better alternative for a 13sec na car at your budget.

In general, if you are looking at ANY car for <3K$, plan on getting tools and books and learning how to fix things, or allow enough monthly budget to pay others to fix things.

well i have a very trusted mechanic.. and i trust him to work on my rx-7 ( and the only person to touch my car besides me).. i know how to fix things it's just i don't have to tools i barely have the basic tools. and i don't know much about engine swaps or even rotarties motors.. i mean i'm trying to learn but it's hard being in college and holding a job to try to learn about rotarties.. but i'm trying..

thats cool. you are just going to have trouble hitting the numbers you want on that budget. i would get a solid car and working on driving skill and having fun. then as money comes start to build it up.

and another reason i wanted a new car cause my car not that pretty lol.. the interior is kinda tore up and the front bumper has a dent in it.. and i looked to getting all these fixed and expensive.. so i figure if i just buy a really nice well taken care of 85 gsl-se then i would be set for a little while.. i went to a couple of websites and they say the 84 gsl-se ( stock) runs 15.9 in 1/4 mile.. r they just the same as far as weight goes with the 85.. i'm pretty sure they r cause it's the same body and stuff.. now alot of people told me that k&n filter and a racing beat exhaust is the best steps to take when first modding a rx-7.. then what do u suggest after that? webber carb? or holly? everyone has mixed feelings on which is better..

Well obviously an NA is not for you. NAs aren't going to get you the speed you want, so just go for a TII.

on any rotary, headers and exhaust will make very good gains. as for carbs, i never got in that far. i would ask that over in the 1st gen section and see what most people like or run a search. hell get a few you like or think are good and setup a poll.

the 85 should weigh roughly the same.

For 3k you can get a decent second gen NA. Not flawless, but nice.
i did a little research and found some of the flaws with the second generations models.. like the wiring or somthing is messed up or goes out quickly..
Just a few of the contacts can get dirty. It just needs to be cleaned and the chances of it happening arent that high.
another question is r the rx-7s heavier than my 84 gsl..
Yes they are like 150lbs heavier or something. No biggy.
and if so do they make it up in hp with the 13b motor..
I guess... They arent too quick.0-60 is 8.5s or something.

Heh. You will need like 6k to get a NA into 13s unless you do a turbo ii swap. Even then you're looking at 3 or 4.

If you want in the 13s then buy a more realistic car. You wouldnt be happy with a NA in the 13s. Anytime you got on the gas it would sound like a screaming banshee, plus you would have 1 seat Just get a turbo ii or lower your expectations.

i can tell how u think that i wanted a 13 sec car with the 2k...i just was wondering if it could be done with a rx-7.. i know i'm not going to get a 13 sec car with only 2k.. but i'm saying is it hard to do ( which is already anwered). and can it be done..i just want a newer car that i can build up over time i just wanted to know if it can be done so i don't start it and find out after i put money into that it can't be done.. i know it takes time to get a car to go fast unless u have 10 k to throw at it lol.. thanks again for your reponses.. and i might be dumb but not that dumb lol....
