Help Me Out. I'm a noob

Sup guys! how ya doin?? I'll start off by saying my name is derrick. I live in Cincinnati, Ohio and I just bought a 87 rx7 (fc). I have never had a car that I love so much! that may sound childish or gay but I am in love with my 7. It has 147,000 on it and runs beautifully and very very strong. I would like input on what to do to keep it running strong like this. I mean i saw posts on mixed fuel or oil or something. I just fill her up at the gas station when i need gas. What do I absolutly need to do to keep it running well because I have never owned a rotary car before. No flaming please I would like posts that help me. Thanks in advance,

Derrick Wilson

Its called premix. Click on the search button in the forum and type in premix.

Ask again about premix and getting flamed will be unavoidable...

As for keeping the car running good, do the 100k mile tuneup if it hasn't been done yet. Don't know what that is? Get a Haynes manual, the FSM (check the stickies) or do a search on the forum for tune up.

PS: Unfortunately for you, most of us don't take too kindly to answering the same question for the 1000th time. Search before you ask and you'll be fine. But if you ask without searching first, don't expect much help.

Welcome to the world of RX-7's Derrick. Over time, if you're like most of the rest of us, you'll develop quite a love/hate relationship with your 7. Remember that these cars are over 15 years old, so the number of things that will go bad or break will be more than you're used to (or that you'll care to deal with).

Rotaries are a lot different from pistons. The oil/gas mix you've heard about is because rotaries behave a lot like two stroke motors. There is an automatic system that pumps a small amount of crank case oil directly into the fuel flow to lubricate rotary internals and seals. As long as this works well, you don't really have to add any additional two stoke oil. Lots of folks have dismantled this system and add two stroke oil at every gas fill up. The choice is yours. Make sure you change the oil at least every 3000 miles. The oil of choice for rotaries seems to be Castrol 20-50 in the summer and 10-30 in the winter.

Other than that, read as many of the posts on these forums as you have time to. That's how you will learn about rotaries. Chances are any question you may have has already been asked so learn how to use the forum Search function.
