Help me out?

Firstly since I'm new I'll introduce myself, I'm Erin, I'm a 17 year old girl from Australia. I just bought myself a 1986 Mazda RX7 (non-turbo) and in awesome condition I might also add.
I have next to no experience with rotaries, and was wondering if there was anything I should know? If anyone especially knows about my model that would be great.
In fact, any general information I'd appreciate (I know, I'm all take and no give).

[EDIT] Yes, I just noticed the whole forum about rotaries. Please, no throwing of large objects, or I'll whip you with my belt.

Best thing to do is just read every thread relating to a T2. That's what I do, except for N/A's.

Well, First of all rotaries are 110% different from normal engine cars. No one is going to be able to tell you everything there is in one post...there is just entirely to much... Like Hermit said just go scrounging around reading the other posts and go do searches for that year and model...if its anything specific ask me or someone else (my step-dad has same year and model and im trying to get it from him cause he aint taken to good a care of it).

First let me congratulate you for choosing one awesome car. Second I dont know how mechanichly inclined you are but checking the oil in any rotary engine its as important as using deodorant. Also water levels (radiator, coolant) and water temperature must be carefully monitor on rx-7s because if you take it for granted and your car overheats, your engine will pretty much self destruct. in contranst with piston engines; the whole engine will need to be removed and dissassemble(and not to many mechanics work or even know about rotaries.
Pretty much, sweety; just do all the service interval(#1 is oil changes) and you should be fine. Now if you have aproblem, or something its funny or u need advise ; just post it here and im sure every guy willcome be glad to help. Read alot and enjoy your seven.....

Oh, download the FSM (Factory Service Manuals) from www.iluvmyrx7.com . Read them, 6 times. That'll give you more information than you could ever want. Along with that, get a Hayne's manual. I've read mine about 6 times when I get bored.

Nice point. Check all your fluids OFTEN. Especially make sure such things as the OMP are working correctly. You might as well check the oil and such (look under the car, check the dipstick) everytime before you start it up. Takes about 20 seconds and could save you a lot of money. At LEAST every fill up.

Thanks alot for that guys. The guy who had it before me has taken good care, serviced every 8000kms (5000 miles), changed the oil often and such. Beautiful car to drive I might also add. I've done well for a first car, don't you reckon? Unfortunatley due to insurance purposes I can't really afford a blown 350, lol. =P

You know, the best thing I did was read guides on doing stuff, really really good source for knowledge.

First I read the FAQ for the seven within these boards, and particularily what to look for in an FC. I understood what the potential problems were for my car using that guide. From there I just searched out those problems and read, ALOT. THE FSM's are great, you can find them at www.iluvmyrx7.com. Another great place for guides was www.fc3s.org. Even if you don't plan to do a specific mod, its just really good to read up how they do it, just for your own information. You never know, you may need that info down the road.

If you have as much interest as me with the FC, you'll learn fast. I've learned to tackle almost all of my problems with my car using these boards and just reading. Also, get a haynes service manual from amazon.com, you won't regret it. EIther that or print out the FSM's, theyre awesome for self repair/diagnosis.

If you have any issues, and you have no idea what they could be related to, just post it, no ones gonna get mad that you didn't search, if your not sure what to search for, at least I won't

have fun.
