Help i need ideas

I just bought a 1986 GXL for only $350. The engine has a broken apex seal with 165,000 miles on it. I have about $4500 to spend making this car nice. I NEED a new exhaust, springs, and wiring harness other then that how should i spend the rest of my money making my car nice?

Please make a list of parts and prices.

Oh and im going for all performance parts, im gettig a free paint job for it already.

i think you going to want to switch your mentaity to to "what should i do to make my car run right once i get a rebuild" its hard to say what you car needs and what it doesnt need, 1st thing i wqould do is look at the fuel pulsation dampener, is it leaking? of so get a new one, check OMP, see how much its pumping out and see if the amount it pumps is within spec, it lists the specs in the FSM. theres much more but im in a hurry, some other fellow members can continue.... hope this helped a little, -alex

the car was running fine until the apex seal broke. He even put a new set of $400 only 100 miles ago. The guy i bought the car from didnt want to take the time to fix the car so he sold in too me. As far as i know everything else works fine

$4500 is not enough for a brand new engine-165,000 on a rotary is NOTHING, unless it was severely abused

From what I have heard, Mazda Remans arent as good as ones that are done by other rotary specialists. You can get a very good rebuild with porting for ~2500. Im not sure if there is anyone near you to do it, though.
