Help!!! I got beat by a NEON

Alright, it was an SRT-4 that runs a 13.5 @105... This was my 1st race since I did my turbo swap to the S5 turbo/manifold. Through 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and part of 4th the max psi I pushed was 12 psi...with my boost controller (AVC-R set at 13) but it completely fell off in each gear to around 7 psi. Is this normal for an S5 stock turbo?

I fully intend on going with an BNR hybrid, probably a stage 3, just curious if this is normal, or a weak turbo. There wasn't any shaft play and everthing felt good.

Thanx.

720s
Full 3" Turbo back exhaust
Custom 3" intake

Nothing wrong with 12. I just wouldnt go past that number. 12 is really about all their good for although I have boost creeped to 15 before by accident. The stock turbo IMO really starts to lose efficiency past 12 anyways.

Thanks for all the input. My question, however, was why's my boost dropping to 7 pounds in every gear. It's briefly at 12, then drops immediately.

We've raced at the track, and I just kill him for the 1st 60', then he starts to catch me by the stripe, but I normally come out on top. This time we went from a 40 roll, and he pulled the entire time. I got beat by around 2 cars through 130.

Its the stock turbo and it sounds tired...it happens.

But really , what was your 60' time.

If he beats him from a start but not from a roll, it sounds like its the car to me. Standing starts take much more skill than rolling starts.

When we raced at the track, my 60's were normally in the 2.0x range, but I pulled a few 1.9x's.

Westler91, I'd like to see you pull a 13.4 in a car with my mods. Thanx.

sleeperfc, 400rwhp, yeah...that'd be nice. Maybe someday.

SRT-4's are quick in a straight line, faster than an EVO or STI 0-60.... i thought that with an EBC you could adjust so that it would keep boost up even at high rpm's or does that conrtoller not have that function, i cant remember the name of the function, but i do know the Greddy E-01 has something that performs this function...

sounds to me like your boost controllor isnt working correctly!

when i build my 3 dollar home depot controllor id spike up at 12 then start bleeding off in the higher gears..... to around 7-8 psi the 3 dollar was just like a pill inline wiht the waste gate to sort of cut off air flow most of the way.... bad design, high spike, and too much bleed off!!

then i got some better 15 dollar design lol, and i could hold boost between 14-12
the better designed used a ball bearing and a spring, wiht adjustable tension, to open/close the waste gate, when pressure reached a certain point.

J-Rat, yeah, you suck. lol, but that's what I was thinking when he started pullin' on me.

I may check into my boost controller...try a few different things with it to see if I can keep the boost up. It's rather old, so maybe the solenoid isn't working like it used to. Might even pick up a cheap MBC and see if it changes the performance.

Thanx.
