Exclamation Help: I can't find an m8x1.75 bolt for my ecu ground.

As the title states, I can't find an m8x1.75 bolt anywhere to redo my ecu ground. (I don't have the original one to clean either, as my ground was relocated by a PO.)

I've been following Aaron Cake's "propper grounding procedure" write up, as my car is not reving properly.

Thank you.

I'm thinking that's a misprint/misread because a normal 8mm bolt would be 1.25 pitch.
1.75 would be very coarse.

I was hoping so, but I figured that Aaron would have caught it after this post that he replied to.

If you take a picture of which ground location you are referring to, I will try to find/grab you the correct one

If in fact, it is an 8mm bolt (most of the other grounds I recall are 6mm), I bet it's 1.25 pitch. What would be the point of using a super weird bolt just to hold a ground?

I guess we'll find out soon.

Hopefully it is a 1.25! I was wondering that same thing-- my only speculation would be that the finer pitch would cause more surface area to touch, but that's just me hypothesizing/bsing.

Luckily the other grounds were 6x1! I guess Mazda just wanted throw a curveball.

The bolt is the same M8 x 1.25 bolt as used throughout the car. For example, any of the bolts holding down the intake manifold will fit the hole.

I made a mistake when saying it is 1.75. I will update my writeup and have made a note to do so. Sometimes these things happen.

Thank you for the clarification, Aaron! Hahaha, that's a relief.

did you not even TRY to thread a bolt in before going on a quest to find a mythical m8 x 1.75 bolt?

That would be an excellent hypothesis/theory if that's how metric hardware nomenclature worked...but it's not.
The pitch- in this example, 1.25mm- is the distance between thread crests, so a 1.75 pitch bolt would be coarser, not finer.

Bloody Yurpeons screwed up everything.

I did but as I said my bolt was missing, which in turn made the threads dirty, causing it to not screw in properly and create the illusion that it could be the wrong pitch. When someone as knowledgeable as Aaroncake says something, you listen.

Thanks for your input as it was absolutely a great contribution... talk about useless posts...

Would an admin please close this thread as the issue has been resolved. Thank you.

Ahhh, that makes sense! Well the positive aspect of this speedbump is that I'm now more adept with bolt knowledge!
