Help! Hunting idle

I have a 1989 t2 and the idle would hunt constantly from 1100 to 1500 constantly. There are no vacuum leaks that I know of, TPS is fine. I thought it might be the BAC, changed it, no good. I also have a Apex'i safc2, that could be why, but i would like to hear any advices from board members before i take it to get tuned. Has anyone had this problem?

Are you sure you have the timing set correctly?

I checked the tps using the multImeter method, but im going to try it again today. As far as timing, i havent thought of that yet. I'll check that too and give an update

Satch and Karack... heres a thought I had... instead of taking the time to warm up the car prior to setting the TPS, and risk the car cooling while disassembling the intercooler and subsequently throwing off the readings thanks to the thermowax, you guys think its feasible to aim a heat gun at the thermowax for a few minutes on "low" (700F)?

Of course you'd have to be careful not to melt anything, but I kinda get the feeling that the 5 minutes of cooling without the engine running has bit me in the *** more than once... just a thought.

It's fairly accessible on an NA, but you could also just press down on the upside down screw that rests against the Thermowax and place a rubber cap on top of the screw that is large enough to close the pimary throttle plates so it simulates a fully warmed up car. Hailers2 suggests pouring boiling water on the Thermowax as another method.

So as i was removing the intercooler to recheck the tps, i found that the big intercooler hose on the passenger side was cracked... Guess that's the problem, gonna order new hoses. Guess it's time to replace all the vacuum hoses while im at it... Do you guys know what all needs to be removed to get to all the vac lines for replacements?

To solve the "intercooler is in the way" problem I built a i/c placeholder with a couple of feet of 1.5" PVC pipe, a 90 and a 45 degree coupling. I just wrap the ends with a bit of duct tape to ensure a tight fit in the couplings.

This allows you to warm the engine up, check for vacuum leaks, and make all your adjustments. You can drive with it too but I wouldnt go crazy on the boost since you wont have anything to cool the charge and you might melt the pipe. But for $5 at HD it solves your immediate problem.

I should really get around to making one of these.. I've taken off those two IC hoses too many times to count.
