put some grease or oil on the actuators, rev up past 3800 rpm, and check the actuators again. If you see that some of the grease has been moved, then it works.

If you're doing it by feel, you would notice a lack of power above 3800 since the port are not opening.

on my street ported motor I could always tell when they were stuck closed. The car seemed completely dead after 4 grad. I actually dynoed the car with them stuck closed (not intentionally) and the power just drops like a rock...

the green line is with them stuck closed. Red line was taken minutes later with them wired open... Blue line was taken months later when I uncorked the exhaust. The first two runs were with fouled plugs too...

A good way to further check if they're not working is to attach a carb fuel pressure gauge to the line going to the actuator and go for a drive to see if you're getting the ~3psi needed to open them. This will at least be a good trouble shooting step. My computer decided to stop sending the signal to the solenoid, so I rigged up a Summit RPM switch, problem solved.

NOTE: On the S5's anyway, they WILL NOT open when freewheeling (not under load), you must drive the car to check.

I believe the grease test only works with s4's, since the rod goes out on an s5. Also, I'm pretty sure that they wont move when in neutral on any 7's, not just s5's.

sweet i'm gonna check tomorrow. (it's like 11 degree's outside). i'm thinking i've got more a ground issue though as i'm pretty sure i noticed 3800 rpm hesitations even in neural. (park) it's an automatic. *jumps back into flame suit*

seems that actuators move. though one rattles kinda bad. i'll check grounds this weekend. seem to remember 3800 hesitation possibly being caused by tps? discuss.
