I have a problem and I need help specifying if its my clutch or flywheel

So recently while driving I noticed that when in gear, I would step on my gas and my rpm would rise super fast but my car isn't actually accelerating normally. Although thats only when I all of a sudden floor it, but when I step on it consistently the rpm and the acceleration match. I just want to know if any of you could help me with this problem.

Clutch is glazed, and your flywheel is probably hot spotted as well. New clutch and resurfaced flywheel needed, along with pilot bearing and throw out bearing

should I still be driving my car? Or will it just make my problem get even worse. It seems to work just fine just as long as I dont all of a sudden accelerate.

Well the damage is already done it seems. More than likely the flywheel will need to be resurfaced and you will need an entire clutch kit... only issue is getting stuck somewhere. Id try to limit your driving but it wont really hurt anything if you do drive it

Thank you very much for your help. is a clutch replacement fairly easy? or do you need to actually pull out the tranny just to work on it. i've never really worked with any drivetrain things.

You have to pull the tranny in order to do the clutch. Not that hard just very timely.

And I agree your clutch sounds like its shot. My ACT is doing the same thing.

Ive never done one on a rwd before, but like ^ said, Id imagine its more a time thing. Drop the tranny, which as far as I know is just bellhousing bolts/nuts and mounts, and unbolt the driveshaft... should be it as far as i know. All of the clutch jobs ive done have been on fwd cars and are harder because of houw tightly crammed into the engine bay they are. Id imagine an rx7 will be pretty simple if you can turn a wrench and read instructions.

I've done the clutch on my wifes AWD Talon and its a pain compared to the RX7. The 7 is much easier I think to work on than a FWD / AWD setup. Don't forget about dropping the exhaust also.

ah yes, forgot about that. my 95 prelude was the biggest pain in the *** to change a clutch on. had to unbolt almost all of the suspension, drop both axles, unbolt all engine mounts and let the engine drop, then you had to undo all of the lines and linkage, then tilt it at just the right angle and push and pull and twist for a half hour, then going back in was even worse... terrible stuff. anything is better than that, so a 7 would be like a dream i bet

It's not too bad repacing a Clutch on a Second Gen.The only Pain in the *** is the Pilot bearing. It can be a B%#&H to get out!..but if you get a good puller you can take it out fairly easily..If I can do it while I have 3 flat Discs in my back,I am sure that yo will be able to Tackle the job,no problem. Some of the things you will have to Drop are the exhaust, the Driveshaft and Transmission, and a Heat shield or two.

As has been suggested in earlier posts, the toughest obstacles will be removing the flywheel nut and removing the pilot bearing. Both require tools most people don't own. For that reason and because both can be tough to remove, it is probably in your best interest to have the job done at a competent transmission shop. However, this can all be done quite easily if you acquire the right tools. If I can do it in my driveway, I'm sure anyone else can.
