Help on fuel filter installation
ok i just got my rx7 a couple days ago and i just got a brand new bosch fuel filter and i want to install it. i have no knowledge of working on rotary engines and a little about working on piston engines because im only 16 and have limited experience with cars in general. does anyone have a write up or an installation guide or just some tips for me because im going to be going in there with out even knowing where the filter is. thanks in advance for your help.

No install guide, but here's some tips...
- pull the fuel pump connector (under the rear carpet near the drivers side shock tower. It's the wire leading from the alumimum patch cover in the middle of the hatch area, run the car until it dies.
- The fuel filter is under the brake master cylinder, on the drivers side of the car. It's held on by two 10mm nuts. One of those nuts is a PITA to get loose. Do this from under the car. Once the filter mount is loose, remove the hoses, and pull it out.
- Note which way the old filter sits in the mount. Remove filter, install new one.
- Installation is the reverse of removal.
- Don't forget to prime the fuel pump before starting the car (jumper the yellow connector on the passenger side front shock tower (it's under the AFM) or you'll never get it to run
- That's about it I think

i agree on that one nut being a PITA.. if you have two vice grips i suggest crimping each side of the fuel line.. it'll help from spew'n gas all over the place.. or in my case.. all over myself

yes goggles are a must!!.. anything eye protection should always be worn... 'specially when you're under the car. I know i used two bottles of carb cleaner when i was doing the fuel filter just cleaning up the car from the pervious owners neglect and I wore a inhilation mask also for my protection... if you spill gas.. keep your work light away from it

If you are working in a garage, keep the door open. Spilled gas vapors can spread rapidly across a floor, and any ignition source or pilot light can set it off. It happened to someone I know.

I would only use the Mazda OEM fuel filter but thats just me.
I've changed a couple of these and never had very much fuel come out, and never "spray out" at all. Maybe its just me though...

You'll have to use the same mounting bracket. The filter will have groves so make sure you line them up with the bracket.
Make sure to use jack stands and not just a hydraulic jack.
