Help : Engine trouble

I have 1987 mazda rx7. It has 74000 original miles and everything in the car is original. I put a new clutch in 1000 miles ago. The car overheated once and now it shoots out white smoke (Not every time i turn it on, only when the car sits for long periods of time) but the smoke burns off quickly. The car always overheats now after about 10 min or running. I dont know what is wrong... How do i get the car to stop overheating?

Thank you very much

Steve

when was the last time you changed your coolant? check your level first, then check the pressure in the system (FSM in the 2nd gen FAQ). could be radiator, thermostat, or the worse scenario, your engines shot. overheating can cause you to ruin your water jacket seals or blow a hole in the side iron water jacket itself. if you end up rebuilding, most likely you'll need another side iron. those are the most likely scenarios I can think of. STOP RUNNING IT! every time you let it overheat, you're just doing more damage. you need to check what I mentioned and whatever other members here think of if it might be something else.
