help, car burning oil

can someone help me diagnose my problem? whenever i am cruising around in my 87 t2 (87k miles on original engine and turbo) there is no smoke coming out of the exhaust. however, when when i romp it and get on the boost, smoke pours out of the exhaust when i get back down to idle. i have thought to myself alot about this and i have come to the conclusion that the o-rings that hold the oil in are going (the original turbo has probably seen 87k hard miles) could my problem actually be in the engine? also if i let it sit for a while and burn the oil out of the exhaust, (the oil that i think the turbo leaked in there) a beeping will start. i thought that this may be a low oil beeping, but it stops when i put in gear and drive around. could these problems be my engine? or am i right and is the turbo bad? thanks alot guys -jacob

Are you going through alot of oil? It could be the motor, but if it was it would probably do it all the time. Your OMP might be stuck wide open too, that happened to me once. I'm not saying thats it. It could be the motor/turbo. Usually turbo smoke is a white/grayish color and oil of course is blue-ish. Do you have oil pressure.? If its your OMP I have one (89-91) not sure what your is though B

yeah, i have full oil pressure so i dont think its the engine... the car is 87 T2. but now i am not even sure that its the turbo cause i still hit 7 lbs of boost under full throttle. can the turbine be blown and me still get full boost? i thought it would be just the oil seals.

but then again, the smoke is white/greyish... so i guess it would be a turbo. i was thinking about buying a used one with around 40k miles to last me 3 or 4 months til i can buy a new engine and turbo. would you all suggest buying a used one with 40k miles? 150 bucks for it.

Blown usually means that you have to rebuild it. A T4 rebuild kit comes with the front/rear oil seals so that's what you buy to fix it.

and YES, you can still boost 7 lbs with a blown turbine.

I would just rebuild the turbo you have now. Just about any turbo place can rebuild that w/ 12 month warranty for around 180-200. then you can start fresh.. .02
