Arrow Help! Cant get Differential Fill plug off!

Well i finished my suspension system on friday (Eibach Springs, KYB AGX, KYB Dust Boots, Tociko Strut Mounts, Mazda OEM Bushing, plates, small misc items),

I did an oil change (Castrol 20w-50 & K&N oil filter), Transmission oil change (Lucas 80w-90 gear oil), and i started doing the diff (need an electric impact gun since it was tightened so MUCH).

I forgot to check the fill plug before i emptied out the diff fluid. I drained it all out, cleaned off the drain plug and reinstalled. Then when i tried taking off the fill plug i noticed it was stripped beyond beleif. I tried using a monkey wrench since i dont have a vice grip. ANy other tips? Should i go get a vice grip?

I really wanna get my car on the road tonight! Havent driven her since march 24, im friggin dying! Want to take my car to school tomorrow.

Thanks

Jason NYC

you could always buy a new fill plug..... with the old one weld a piece of metal long/big enough to use some type of a small helper/breaker bar and break that bitch loose.

i know how you feel, my situation was similar to yours except my drail plug was the one that wasnt coming off even if i said please

Use a small pipe wrench. Or try an easy-out. You may have to just drill out the old plug. In any case, once you get it out you will want to replace it with a new plug.

I would recomend drilling anything as a "last ditch" attempt, because of the metal shavings that would be in the diff case after wards... try as best you can to get it off withought drilling it out.

Seriously though. Jason (RotaryRocket) is over 20 years old... Anyways, try this Jason. It worked when one of the strip/rusted uts on the Infiniti was stuck. The nut was f'ed up when i got it off but at least i can take the undertray off and change the oil and belts . I'm not sure what the wrench is called but it works . Feel free to come and pick it up if you want.

You still gotta fix your differential mount btw .

wow, thanks robs that looks really good. Ill let ya know when i can pick it up.

For those of you who think ima younging who gets $$ from my parents to fix up my car, stfu, im 23 years old, senior in college studying civil engineering, work 2 jobs so i aint no lil kid.

As for being a *****, i dont think putting a piece of piping on the wrench will solve anything since i have already tried that. THe lip on the nut is so small and stripped that the socket wont even grab a hold properly, therefore im just stripping it some more. I even tried using a slightly smaller socket and forcing it into the nut and seing if that would work and nothing. Now i dont think that ***** is the right terminilogy to use here, so dont use it.

Rob, I think that tool is the key to getting it off. I have already placed an order for all new plugs for engine, tranny and diff.

Come on man, use your teeth!

Don't even think of filling it through the drain plug by tilting the car forward. Maybe you can flip the car onto it's roof, then you can do it

^^ stop it with the ***** **** son. That doesnt mean ****. ******* diff plugs have thin heads, ***** already stripped, the corners its pretty much just a round ******* nut!

On top of that the **** was tightened with an IMPACT ******* gun, cant get that **** off by hand.

Drain plug wouldnt turn by hand, had to use an impact gun to REMOVE It!. THen i put it on by hand and torqued it to spec!

The fill plug is FUCKED, channel grips couldnt get it off, it just kept rounding it off. Im sure vice grips will grip it and **** but regardless they were tightened with an impact gun, so i need a bit more torque and based on the position of the plug its hard even with a long tube!!!

SO stop it with the ***** **** son!

honestly, this seems like it could work, the differential case cant be more than half full when its filled up the the fill plug, so it seems very reasonable that you could do this. I am not sure if you could jack the rear up that high though

you could always remove the differential

You could try busting out an impact gun and hammering a smaller socket onto it and trying to zip it off... but that may destroy the head of the bolt even worse...

Just an idea.
