Exclamation HELP!! cant get brake rotor screws out

well, today ive successfully broken a total of one snap on screwdriver, one drill bit, and four supposedly 'indestructable' bits attempting to remove the two screws/bolts that hold the rotors on. will someone please give me a solution to this problem. they are on unbelievably tight.

Drill the heads off.......remove rotor............remove the rest of the threads with vise grips or your fingers.

use an impact screw driver.

if they break, use a carbide bit.

When you put the new ones on, use anti-sieze and snug it on tight, not too tight.

Yup the hand held Craftsmen impact is a must for the cars up north will all the salt on the roads. Somebody else said drill it off and use a vise grip to get them off but you already broke a drill bit. Use some oil next time drilling and it won't overheat and break.

another idea that has worked really well for me in the past is to use a screwdriver bit, but put it in a socket and use a rachet. the extra torque you get helps out a lot. and if all else fails, i'll use a dremel and a cutting wheel and just cut the cross deeper. it will both weaken the screw, and give you more grip since the slots are deeper. you will cut into your rotors though.

Mine was so tight I finally gave up and took it to Meineke. The service guy said he had never seen one so tight. He was forced to use a torch and followed it with some sort of socket that binds into the head of the bolt after some newb has stripped the hexes off. He wasn't happy.

Get one of these as others have suggested. Hold the driver FIRMLY against the screw head and smack the driver REAL hard with a hammer. Guaranteed to work, unless the screw head is totally rounded out.

you can also use a dremel, cut the head of the screw to make it where you can use a large flat head screwdriver. Get a long driver, and boom, its out Anti seize helps too
