Help can't align flywheel key

I'm trying to put a flywheel back on and I can't get the damn key to line up with the flywheel. I've searched and cant find anything. If anyone knows a link or a good way to line this up id appreciate it. The engine is srill in the car btw, and its an s4.

have you tried using alittle WD40? is there any knicks or burrs on the key, if there is take a file and remove them but go easy while doing so. also try tapping the edge of the key that's faces towards the rear on the car down alittle bit.

For me getting it off was the problem not putting it back on. You may have some rust, dirt, or possibly a burr. Just inspect it and make sure it’s smooth and clean. A side note, I would use the spray brake cleaner on your flywheel before putting your clutch back on to get the oil off the friction surfaces so you don’t get a hot spot. That stuff is the best because it leaves no residue.

Well, it didnt have any burrs when I started but I dinged it up a little so Ill try the file and the wd40. Everytime I try putting it on I bump the key out of place or it just wont slide in. I thought about using tape but than how will I get it off once I get the flywheel on? I feel like I'm trying to thread a thirty pound string through a needle here. Thanks, Ill work on it today and see how it goes.

If you keep bumping it out of place try using just a drop or two of superglue to hold it down while you install the flywheel.

It went on great with that superglue idea. Thanks. I guess locktite seems safer but its already on now.

Nah, it should be alright. With the heat in that area the superglue should break down relatively quickly and it will not react negatively to the metal.
