Help ASAP! Please!!!!

My son in stuck in Nanaimo- The car's alternator doesn't seem to be charging the battery. The belts are fine. Not enough power to start the car. Is there anything else that might be wrong other than the alternator not working properly? ie: wires etc?

Love to have a reply soon...
Thanks- DC's Mom

See if he can get someone to jump his car. Leave the cables on as long as he can to charge the battery. I had to do this on my way back to school, I'd get about 70 miles before I needed a charge again.

Good luck.

with the belt on I'd guess the alternator. the battery can power the car for 2 hours or so once the alternator has died. but it'll be hard to restart. try to get it jump started or push started. and look at the volt gauge on the dash. if it's 12 or less the alternator is toast. should be 13-14v.

Yo, i got the car home, by having my mom drive 150 miles to give me her battery, and then she charged my battery, while i used hers. Then we changed when mine was almost out of juice (just enough to start hers) and then i drove home on my original battery so, any other problems it might be other then fried alternator? I've found one for 65$

If the car ran fine with the charged battery, I'd say you found your problem.

Just to be sure, check the connectors on the alternator-to-battery wire.

Jump start the car and get it running, take off the negative cable from the battery while the cars running, if it dies u need an alternator, if it stays running your alternator is fine.
