Help! any and all feedback is welcome
Sorry if this sounds like a long drawn out story but here it is. My motor has about 212xxxmi. on it and sounds like my throwout bearing is going out. today i installed my new apex'i filter today and forgot to plug the AFM back in and tried to crank it over once then it hit me and i plugged it back in and started it up. took it for a test drive and it wouldnt rev past 6 1/2k. i was on the freeway and pulled over at a rest area and popped the hood and it sounded like it wasnt running on both rotors. things got worse and it wouldnt go past 40mph and 2 1/2k in fifth gear. barely made it home and tried to rev it past three. when floored it boggs out but if i only go half throttle it revs right to 3 1/2 and when i let off it makes a loud hissing noise. the two ideas i have in my head are i popped my motor or my clutch finally gave out since ive been in a car b4 with a bad clutch and it wouldnt go past 20mph. Ive been studying about the rotary since b4 i bought my fc in march so i wouldnt know too much about how it runs with a blown rotor or much less what it sounds like. please help me guys, i just passed smog five days ago and now this, just boggles my mind.
oh, i have my haynes and ive been reading that quite often just for reference so if there are any specific sections i should take a look at just let me know as im about to go read some more to try to narrow down the list of problems
First go get a compression tester (walmart has cheap ones that work) to confirm if you have a blown motor or not. Second, check to see if you are getting enough fuel and spark to the engine.
also check and see if you pulled any hoses loose when you changed the air filter, and that the pressure sensor is hooked up, i changed my once and pulled the tube loose and it ran like ****. also if you want to see if you engine has gone, pull the spark plugs, if they are oily and fouled up, that could be true. with that may miles on the motor i would be saving up for a rebuild. and if you need to rebuild change the clutch and throwout bearing since it will all be apart. good luck
its getting enough fuel, i just changed out the fuel filter, fuel pump strainer, ngk plugs and wires. I was just thinking that about the comp check, i had it done when i first got it, they were three even bounces but i barely remember the numbers, i think one was high eighties and the other was low nineties, another forum member did it for me since i was/still am pretty new to rotories. i dont exactly remember the procedure, but is it pull the fuel pump fuse while running to get the fuel out, then i know you take the plugs out, but which plug bore do you hook up the tester to?

you need to check for compression. Thats the first thing. You are welcome to come to my house and get a compression test. Your MAF Sensor can be ****** up too. My old 91 NA ran similar before and when i changed out the MAF Sensor, it was fixed. I happen to have a spare S5 N350 MAF I can give to you for $20, if it works. I need to see it in person and drive it to know exactly how it is. Call me up when you have time. I am busy mostly everyday with work, so it has to be on my days off. Sundays are always good for me though. and if your motor is losing compression, we can build compression with the atf procedure.
Well i compression checked my engine (got my tester from walmart hahaha). They were three even bounces around 80 on all three for both rotors, high eighties on the rotor closest to the firewall, i forget which is one and which is two. when it was running while i was warming it up for the test it would rev to 4000rpm but if i floored it, it would bog out. I think it isn't getting enough air and i think its my maf's fault. It was running so rich i could smell the fuel in the exhaust and it was smoking badly. I tried to call you but it said your number wasn't in service, ill try to come by next sunday if you aren't doing anything. I doubt my car will make it to fresno though, but ill get there one way or another.
