i filled my engine coolant up to the fill level with a 50/50 mix of water and antifreeze and made sure the radiator was filled up but now the 'Add Coolant' light and (very loud!) buzzer comes on every time i idle!!!

my god its loud and really annoying, is it a sensor problem????

help would be much appreciated as i fear this could end in me driving off a cliff!

also what full exhaust system would you recommend for an 89 N/A??

 

Did you bleed the system of air?

 

dude check your thermostat housing for a hairline crack right on top.

 

i didnt bleed the system of air, did unto the little plug that it told me to though.

have had a quick look and i cant see any cracks,

is it possible to overfill it???

 

Also, check two important things, one of which frustrated me when I had similar thing happen...check your oil (which you probably did) AND on the driver's side, right behind the front wheel, there is a wire that connects to the bottom of the oil pan. If this comes loose (as mine did) that buzzer wont stop buzzing. Many people forget to check this.

 

The oil pan sensor makes the coolant sensor go off ??

Did you take the plug out of the upper radiator neck? Mine still has the yellow sticker next to it telling you to remove while filling, but I'm sure a lot of them are missing on other cars. I had the same problem as you, found that plug and removed it (Philips head screwdriver) while I slowly filled the system. Put it back in when it started running out, then topped it off. Coolant light/buzzer hasn't come on since. I can still hear it bubbling through the heater core when I crank it though, not sure yet if that's normal or if I didn't get all the air out of there yet. BTW make sure you have the heat on when you fill it, to make sure you don't get an airlock in the heater hoses/core.

 

YOu have Air in the Cooling System..the Air is a PAIN in the *** to get out.you can Start by filling the Cooling system up While the car is Runningand When you are Doing the Fill,have the car's HEATER going FULL BLAST on the inside of the car,so that the Coollant will circulate through the heater core..,then you wait Until the Thermostat Opens.It will start to Flow,so Watch it!!..it is a little bit Time consuming to really Tell you so HERE:..Go to www.rotaryresurrection.com That is Kevin Lander's site.He should have a How To on how to fill the cooling System..Best of luck.

 

The buzzer is used for low oil, low coolant, and redline.

 

thanks for all your help guys, it was the wire that had come loose and that seems to have stopped it but im gunna get the air out the system any way!

i have a 87 mazda rx7 it wont stay on , it starts up for about a minute tnan it starts to putter than it die out. after that it just turns over but wont start

 

chico708, What octane fuel are you using? I only use 93 octane for turbo or na. My vert would sputter and die out with 87 octane. Plus, check your fuel filter.

Also, if you want more questions asked about your problem, go ahead and start a new thread, rather than posting in an existing thread that is about a completely different problem.

thanks for the info but dont know if its the gas just be cause it statrs up and stays on of a min. or two and the thing does not want to start again . and when it does stat that one time it smells like gas and fuems . can any body help......thanks

 

ok im having the same damn problem
and its killing me....ugh my engine idles fins and runs like a champ but
after i swaped it to my other rebuild its add coolant light went on and buzzer screams away...

i check that wire from the oil pan and it seems to have been previously cut
i think this can do something once i solder the wire back on to the connector

but thats oil will this make the 'Add coolant' light disappear???

Why would the oil level sensor have anything at all to do with the coolant level? Completely separate.

Check if your coolant level sensor has a broken wire. It's right on top of the radiator, in the middle. You can't miss it.

If not that, read the thread and you'll find a lot of times it's just air trapped in the system. A haynes manual can tell you how to properly add coolant.

 

i've done like every bleed process possible from the FSM to plenty of Threads on different forums...i think

well that sensor has no wire its just there as a plug because i got that used radiator a while back when my car was running and it never had a wire there
i do have two wires at the bottom of the raditor

but the system is as full as i can get it, i think i need to burp it but i can't seem to get it right....any tips

 

I had the same problem recently. The buzzer would come on after some driving, after I shut the car off my overflow is full and the radiator cap makes a little hissing noise. So I bled the system and the car was fine for a few miles and than bam the coolant buzzer was back. I swapped out the radiator cap and that seemed to solve the problem.

 

When the connection is broken to the coolant level sensor, the buzzer goes off. Get a new sensor and actually plug it into the wire.

 

i was gonna but honestly i looked deep
and i dont even see a wire from the harness that sticks out or would even begin to reach that far up to the radiator...

geez i feeel like im chasing my tail with this one
because i never had this prob before and its the same damn set-up as before

i think i just need a super deep air bleed....
but shoot i am horrible at that i guess

im going to look for another FC that has the wire and follow it through
see what i'm missing

honestly i hope thats all it is and i can just solder it in
still my engine runs like a champ its just that sensor
i think no one can bear that horrific noise...

 

It should be a part of the FRONT harness. It should break out of the FRONT harness on the right side of the radiator area. It is a PURE BROWN colored wire.

Or for a temp fix, find the connector b/t the FRONT harness and the METER harness. The one called FME-01 in the dwg. Then find the pure brown colored wire in that plug and put a ground to it to stop the buzzer.

Until you get the sensor, just ground the end of that wire to the chassis or some known ground point. That will KILL that buzzer noise and light.

 

HAILERS....ur a freakin savior, ithe buzzer was driving me CRAZY so I looked on here and bam, I just found a small piece of wire and made that brown wire reach the - battery terminal and now no more annoyiing light or buzzer! I would not have thought about that! Good call dude!

 

Dude that's the temporary fix. Hope you plan on hooking it up to a coolant sensor soon. You need that warning to keep your engine from breaking. If you need to make one it's just a piece of metal (preferably brass or 316 stainless steel so it won't rust) sticking into the coolant and attached to that wire. It should not be touching any metal part of the radiator or chasis.

 

I'm going to fix mine right now...

 

is there a fuse you can take out so that that annoying buzzer goes off? because I honestly dont need that letting me know something bad is happening...
