Help with '86 shifter/bushing upgrade as a gift

My son has an '86NT RX-7 and the shifter is like a wet noodle. I have limited time to find a fair deal on upgraded parts to upgrade the shifting action of his 5-speed. Can experienced guys suggest mods and vendors of such that will provide crisp shifting? Ebay did not show much. Help is appreciated. mark

p.s get the lower set too, the top is nice but with the bottom it's better

order a short shifter off ebay... dont get one for an rx7 they are too expensive, mazda used the same transmission in the mazda miata's in the early to mid 90's... if you get a short shifter for a mazda miata it will be a heck of a lot cheaper... i got mine for $40 and it works great! feels so much better than my sloppy old one. i put it in my 1986 rx7

Many Thanks guys! It's tough to try and find performance upgrades for his car and wothout a turbo adding much power is next to impossible. His '86 is Red and NEVER seen a winter, beautiful car. I try to get him something for his B-day and Christmas. He has the exhaust done and intake, nice wheel/tire combo. If anyone has any suggestions for other mods please email me at: marksweet@webtv.net I own a '93 Talon AWD turbo myself.
If someone wanted a pristine example of an '86 RX-7 he may be willing to sell his. It would be tough to find a nicer example. THANKS again, Mark
PS: My son is 26.

I checked out eBay. Seems like 2 suppliers of Miata shifters, Megan and some other name I was not familiar with. Is there a preferrence? POSITIVE these will fit the '86 RX-7?! $50. is much better than $200.!! I like the one that appears to be a megan racing model, $40. plus $10. for USPS priority mailing. Mark
PS: I'll get the upper AND lower bushing kits also.
