HELP. 0 Oil Pressure & Super High Idle !! =(

Hello everybody.

So I JUST finished all my maintenance on my 1987 RX7 TII. That includes things like oil, filter, spark plugs, brake and clutch fluid, clutch master and slave (I'll get in to this in a bit), and a few other components including a racing beat fuel pressure bleed off kit.

So, on to the clutch slave. I was removing the oil pressure sensor condenser (as far as I am aware of anyway, little black box on top on one bolt on slave, one wire) and of course it breaks. Whatever, replace the slave, blah blah blah, bolted up and good to go. Take it out for a test drive.

Now at this point, I'm pretty sure I had the wire still plugged in to the connector at the other end (NOT where the black box is, opposite side) however with the black box gone, I'm pretty sure the wire was just dangling. Drove it around, things seemed like normal.

Fast forward to a couple of days later, when I have the chance to bullet connect the wire I had broken off, and create a little makeshift horseshoe ground to bolt back up to the slave. Did it, and oil pressure under daily driving spiked like MAD (up to 110, maybe above) however I'm pretty sure this was related to not having the condenser, and realistically, the gauge was moving in relation to what normal increases and decreases would be as far as gauge location in relation to where it was at idle.

So ok, bad idea to have it way the hell up there. Take the makeshift ground off, unplug wire completely, daily drive, oil pressure is 0, if not wayyyy below, as if gauge is broken, again however moving in relation when driving to the normal range of increases and decreases.

Idle at this point becomes erratic, sometimes staying at normal, sometimes idling to around 12/1500, sometimes going up to 3k-3.5k-almost4k!. Rev the motor like MAD, get a little boost, and it will go back down to normal idle, but not for long.

A few other problems but holy cow I already typed a lot. Any input would be greatly appreciated! I have already tried replacing the condenser with an exact replacement from an alternate condenser location (driver side strut tower) to no avail.

Nothing seems to be working and I just want to have my daily back on the road again, not revving at 3.5k at a stop light by a cop... =( Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The wire that is connected to the condenser is not a ground so if you bolted this wire to a body ground that would explain why the oil pressure maxed out. Now in doing so if you had the wire grounded for too long a period of time that could very well kill the oil gauge which might have occurred in your case.

Now the erratic idle could be caused by the throttle cable being hung up on something (cruise control cable same thing). The throttle plates sticking could cause the same problem too. If you can recreate the high idle while in the driveway then you can try pressing upwards on the throttle linkage at the front of the throttle body. If the idle speed slows down then you know something was opening the throttle plates too much.
