Hello, new to the forum and need help

Hello to all,
My name is Jeff and own a 88' base model n/a. I got the car from a friend when my last project car became too much for me, so we swapped. This is my 4th rx-7 and 3rd 2nd gen.

Now the problem that I'm having is when I start my car it goes through the normal accelerated warm up process and idles kinda high at about 900-1000 rpm's. After the car is warm and on the road, everytime I come to a stop the engine dies. What could be causing this to happen?

My second problem is that while turning / braking I hear a clunking noise coming from the left front wheel area. I've pulled the wheel and everything seemed tight, though the bushings look like they've seen better days. They don't appear to be in that bad of shape though.

Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

mine makes like a vibrating clunk noise. i came to the conclusion if was my tire rubbing the fender well. the only thing i can think of is bad compression for the whole engie dying thing, but when it happened to my friends fc he had to give it gas to start it and keep it running for it to idle i believe

check your ball joints very carefully and the rest of the suspension. As far as the engine dying at a stop sounds like a bad BAC valve or a leak somewhere.

1st sounds like maybe you should check the tps and idle speed screw as a last resort.. or maybe you have blown coolant seals..
and second sounds like a wheel bearing

That is what I was thinking. You can use carb cleaner to locate the area of a vac leak and correct it. Or, you can just do yourself a favor and spend a little more money to replace all of the intake hoses and gaskets (its not expensive at all the gaskets are actually cheap from Mazda.) As for the clunking, does it only do it when you are slowing down or does it make that sound when you are going or speed bumps or anything?

I was thinking BAC myself, is there a way to delete it altogether? along with other nonessential vacuum lines. I have no emissions requirements where I live so I can remove it all if possible

I don't think compression is the issue. If it was, then he would have trouble starting the engine, and from what I can tell, he doesn't.

That clunking noise you speak of... it could be a bad axel, its not that expensive... its about 50$ for one... the idleing situation could be a bad BAC, but i would check everything that is related with the idle process before spending any money... it could be the stupidest thing and its right in your face, it happened to me... the car was idleing so strange, i ended up replacing numerous things, and it turned out to be the EGR valve... i mean i did a full tune-up, change the spark cables, new air filter, new o2 sensors, cleaned the manifold made sure everything was just right... but i think monthly routines such as those i mentioned isnt a bad idea at all... just to keep track of whats up with your car you know? good luck~

Wheel bearings almost always make a growling noise that is constant. I'm willing to bet that your problem is your Constant Velocity Joint (CV Joint). If your bushing went bad it would be a hard chatter everytime you go over rough road, but when you turn or decelerate and you get a rythmic thumping noise its your CV Joint.
