heatsink for oil cooler

Just wondering if a heat sink wrapped around the oil filter would be a good idea. I have a bunch of CPU heatsinks, and access to a machine shop, so I wouls be able to modify them to wrap around the oil filter. thx

If they blocked airflow thru it, that would suck. If you wanted to add fins to the top and bottom of the cooler, I guess it would work, but I don't know how good the benefit would be

Don't waste your time. The stock oil cooler is one of the best out there.

Read carefully guys. The thread title said cooler but the question in thread said filter. I don't thing it would be of much help if any. If your factory oil cooler isin't working good enough for you you probably have issues elsewhere.

I fly piper tomahawks and on their oil filter they have a heatsink material around them with a metal jacket around that. Then there is two 2" ID tubes that duct air into the cooler. The aircraft has no oil cooler. If you don't get air flow around it not sure how much it would work. If you don't have a oil temp gauge you wont know anyway

Again, don't waste your time. Your car already is equipped with one of the best automotive oil coolers ever made.;

Hey, it won't hurt. Go for it man.

The question that you are asking nobody has first hand experience with. So why don't you get some first hand experience?
