Assuming he left the hard lines alone, I think you should be able to just hook it back up. Its possible that he bypassed it because it was clogged and need to be flushed but he didn't want to do it. I'd say to look and see if the stuff to hook it up to is still there and if it is hook it up. Then once you start the car, look and listen for leaks. If its ok, then fire it up to see if it actually heats (once the cars warmed up of course).

Just remove it!! I'm about to take mine out of my TII. Heaters are over rated anyway. I would flush it out before hooking it back up though.

On a side note, my heater doesn't even work during the winter because my radiator and e-fan keep the temps down so well that I can't get the coolant hot enough to work for the heater. That's why I'm pulling mine.

Ummm, if you really don't get the temps up then you have a stuck thermostat. You need to get that fix pronto as coolant temps being too low is bad for the engine. Also, heaters are pretty important for defrosting purposes. I had a car where the heater was broken and it wasn't fun in the winter, and I live in Texas. I hate to think of what it would be like up north.

I would say that if you have the time, pull the heater core and have it flushed an make sure theres nothign wrong with it, then hook up the proper lines. If not, just hook up the lines and hope for the best.

I don't have a stuck thermostat. It's partially my cooling system being over built and partially the way the the line to the heater core is run. My coolant temps are just fine and stay on the low side of where they should be. Besides, my TII is only driven on the street when it's a beautiful day and when I feel like taking it out. So I am not worried about typical day to day niceties like defrost or heat. Sorry for not explaining that earlier.

I think you would be able to smell the coolant inside the car if the heater core had leaked unless he really went out of his way to clean it up... but why else would he bypass the heater core??? Hmmm, sounds suspicious.

Yes youy do ahve to pull the dash, but the ghetto route should work so see if theres a problem. Maybe get some UV dye and a black light to be sure.

yea seems suspecious to me as well..all i can really think of why to bypass it would be if it was clogged? but i tried my ghetto method and it flowed just fine...the water was a lil brownish for about 2 seconds and then it was all crystal clear...and i ran water through it for about 45 seconds and felt up under the dash on both sides inside and there was no moisture or anything (i know it'd probably take a bit longer to leak) so i hooked it back up...ordered a new driverside heater hose after reading about them blowing up cuz of the oil so that'll be here tomarrow with my new radiator drain plug (mine broke in half when i took it off) so i cant test it all out til after work tomarrow but i think it'll probably be alright...and i ordered all new silicone radiator hoses while i was at it, just figure i'll replace it all...thanx for the quick input and help guys...

My guess is the po was too cheap to buy the preformed hoses for the heater when one blew and bypassed the core instead. Since you want an operating heater, pick up the hoses and hook up the core. If it works and doesn't leak, you are ahead of the game. If it leaks, have fun pulling the dash.
