Heater core leaking ?

well last night I was tearing out my engine harness on my T2 because I bought a new one! (ouch).. any way when I got to unplugging the harness from the ECU I noticed that the foam under the carpet was soaked in antifrezze WTF? and a little on the floor board,

1) what would cause this?
2) car only has 84k on it.
3) I did take the heater hose coming off the heater core off in the engine bay.

I really don't want to pull the dash out to look at the heater core. how can I preasure or leak test it? thanks for any input
Also I think it would be odd for the heater core to go out as such low milege?

Reseat the heater hoses going into the firewall from the engine side.
These hoses get crudded up and leak coolant - typically on the inside of the car.
Be VERY CAREFUL when you remove and reinstall - the copper ends are very soft and easy to crimp!

If this doesn't fix it, your heater core is busted.
