My heater core line is leaking in the dash. It not close enough to the heater core for me to just link the lines in the dash area. I am going to fix it in the engine bay and pull the heater core later.

Can I just close off the heater lines going to the engine and the rad, or do I need to connect them?

 

You'll be fine just capping them.
