Heater Blower Problem

Allright, the other day my heater blower stopped working. Today me and my Dad take it apart, clean it, lube it, etc. Put it back in.. nothing. Take it apart again, go over everything with a meter.. it all checks out ok. Put it back in and.. nothing once again.

I ran straight power from my battery to it.. and it spun like no tomarrow.

So we start pulling wires down from under the dash.. theres a relay that seemed fine (wasnt kicking off or anthing) and some round looking thing that was sealed and we couldent open or even tell what it was.

If I unplug the fan, turn the fan speed to max.. i hear a little click, then if I plug the fan in, it spins fine. But if I turn the speed down any it kicks off.

I read somewhere that a new ground could fix this.. so I ran one and it didn't help.

Also tried to 'help' the fan by spinning it with it turned on, and got nothing.

Any advice would be appreciated.. I want to get this fixed before winter (i know its a long way away.. but time flys and I don't want to be still stumped come november).

I'm going to have my Grandpa come over tomarrow and let him take a look at it, he's good with electric motors and stuff like that.

Same problem. For me, the transistor on the top of the blower motor went bad. When I disconnected the transistor, it made it so that the fan worked only on MAX, whereas with it connected it wouldn't work at all. I would recommend going through the troubleshooting procedure in the shop manual to determine if your transistor went bad, as well. If you do no own a manual, they are available online--do a search on this forum.

I have a mirror site with a copy of the FSM.
The link is in my sig.
The Heater & fan information starts around page 97.

I don't wanna sound like a noob but did you check the fuses? You didn't mention it but it may have just been common sense for you to do.

I pulled the transistor and the fan worked on max.. so we're gonna buy a new transistor and see what happens then.

I am in the same boat. My motor stopped blowing. So where's the transistor? I read through the FSm a few weeks ago but forgot.

Is that the one behind the glove box or is that the relay?

Is the transistor in the Logicon?

its like.. above the blower motor in the housing.. it was a pain in the *** to remove, had to take out the whole housing (blower motor, plastic surround, etc)

took about an hour, hooked up the fan without the transistor and fan worked only on max.. my dad is going to pick up a new transistor tomarrow.. and ill see if that fixes it.
