Heat problems

I have a 91' NA, and i have been expierencing some heat problems. The heat likes to kick on every now and then for a couple minutes then will completely shut off. I tried to make a note when it does this, but most times it is completely random. I am figureing it to be a bad heat blower or and elctrical problem somewhere. If anyone has any suggestions what it could be, I would appreciate it greatly.

Either bad logican, or a bad airmix fan (I think that's what it was called?) You can check out the factory service manul for more info at http://www.fc3s.org/ under howto's and manuals for ways to test it/etc.

Start by checking the relays and connectors.
The FSM shows where they are.

probably a bad Logicon, if it is intermittent like that without you trying to make the heat come on, or the heat is set on and the heat suddenly turns off.

Sometimes there are screws on the backside of the Logicon face that come out because of old brittle plastic, if the screw gets loose against the bottom of the Logicon it can cause a short as you describe.

It won't be a problem with relays, or accessories or the airmix motor if the temp is set on heat and the heat suddenly switchs off, it would only be in the logicon, as the air mix motor won't move without a signal.

i kinda have the same problem, but when i turn my heat on all the way, theres really nothing much coming out of the vents, but theres more air coming out, but not much, out of the vents on the cool/high position.

what can this be? im freezing!!

Your problems are either due to a bad logicon or a bad air mix motor. Telling which one is bad is virtually impossible without swapping in known good parts. Start with the logicon since it's a lot easier to replace then the air mix motor.

No, it's real easy to test the air mix motor...

as covered before:

Unplug Logicon.

On the other end of the plug/harness that is attached to the logicon, (the plug that the logicon attached harness plugs into) there is a Green/White and a Yellow.

If you put 12V+ on the Green/White while putting ground to the Yellow and the air/mix motor is working, it will move all the way to the cold position.

Reversing the two (12V+ on the Yellow, ground on the Grn/Wht) will move the air/mix motor to the Hot side.

Also, as another check for the air/mix motor, if you use your digital Multi-meter, the resistance between the Grn/Wht and the Yel will be 17 to 21 ohms, if the motor is good.
