Headlight/tailight/brakelight problem
Im getting my 88 na back on the road. Its been sitting for a while and i ran into a couple issues.
When i turn on the headlights, the dash illuminates and the headlights pop up but neither the taillights or headlights come on. Also when i push the brake pedal the brakelights dont light up. Fuses are all good. Is there a relay that could be bad. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks, Ben
I doubt both the brake light switch and headlight switch broke at the same time

well, here is where im at.... I changed the headlight switch with a known working one and i now have everything lit except the headlights. I did alot of searching and found that it could be the relay in the front of the car so i went to jump the R WIRE TO THE R/G WIRE and found that the relay was missing. I put a relay in that fit (could be for something else) but it clicks when the switch is turned on and clicks when off so i think its the right one. Still no headlights. I removed the relay and tried to jump the wires and still nothing.
The original switch was melted and i replaced the harness when i replaced the switch. Could the CPU be burnt that the harness plugs into?
What should i try next?

Look at the FSM, at the wiring diagrams in the back. This will show you what wires run where and what their colours are. Use a voltmeter and start checking things, following the relevent diagrams. It's a pita and it takes time, but you *will* find where the problem is if you are patient and careful.

oh man, this sounds like deja vu to me. This was one of the more difficult challenges on my restore. Here's my thread from when I was working on it: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/no-headlights-turn-signal-new-switch-harness-667146/
In the end, I think I got lucky. You may have to replace the relays in the front, as well as change the headlight/turn signal switch. also make sure you check the wiring for breaks, as all this could be caused by a short in the wire.
Good luck, and I'd suggest browsing the FSM and getting a multi-function electrometer from sears or pepboys or something.

Like the wiring diagram shows, when you put the headlight switch to ON, you are putting a Ground on the Headlight relay.....which is fed Power by the Headlight fuse in the engine bay.
It's possible the low beam filiment is burnt out. So turn the headlights on and then pull the lever back to show the high beams. If the high beams work, it could be both headlight low filiments are bad. Or it could be a bad dimmer relay.
So jumper the R to to RG wire in the headlight relays base, and then go to the Dimmer switch and jumper the RG to the RB (or RW) wire in the dimmer relays base and see if the lights come on. If they do, then the dimmer relay is bad. See the next page in the online wiring diagrams for the location of the Dimmer and Headlight relays.
It'd be better is you had a meter and could look and see if the Red wire has batt voltage on it or not.
