Headlight problem
Ok my headlights stoped working all of a sudden. I checked the fuse and the light boulbs but they are OK. I though they might not be grounded properly BUT the weird thing is both of the headlight dont work! Now thats weird to me. Anyone had a similar problem? And is the headlight wiring in serial since both of them are not working?
Thanx in advance.

The switch throws ground on the on Red/White wire, it should be resting at 12V+
when you ground the red/white wire the headlights should come on. The red/white is in both the 10 pin and 14 pin plugs at the light switch.
To check the switch, when it is on to the headlight on position, the red/white will have ground on it.
If the lights don't light when you ground that wire, then check the head light relay.
At the headlight relay, when the white/blue is grounded, the red/green will have 12V+ on it. If it doesn't then you have a bad 30 amp underhood fuse or bad headlight relay.
and you never did answer if the flash to pass works???

Menace, if they're popping up but not turning on it could be the headlight relay or the 30A headlight fuse, both of which are under the bonnet. If you don't have a wiring diagram, get one. It makes this sort of troubleshooting much easier.

Ah good catch NZ, I am sure you must think we americans think the world should be our way...
anyway to describe more,
The headlight switch, switchs 12 Volts for the parking/running lights, and the dash lights, but switchs a earth or ground to activate the relay for the head lights.
So in my above post, I described how to test both the relay and the switch.
But like NZ, I think it's more related to the under hood/under bonnet headlamp fuse, but I gave you how to test the switch and relay anyway.

Also i have both the FSM and the haynes manual. SO im not short in wiring diagrams. But what i need IS real life wire diagram. :S As in where it goes on the car.

Headlights can be found in the front of the car.
The switch is near your left hand when you drive. Its that round ****.
The 1987 FSM has the wiring diagrams plus on the back of each wiring diagram page, it has a picture of the car and where each item goes. As in where the ground wire is for each light assy. Near the trail coil assy, if I remember right.
If the dimmer relay contact went bad....might make it difficult for the circuit to be made to the lights.
How come everyone mentions the bonnet but never the turtle? You can get your spanners out and really go to town on some items in the turtle. Strut tower assy's and dampers to be worked on back there. One of my first turtles was on a XK-140MC. yEEEEEHAAAA.
