headlight mod wiring enquiry

I have read abut the headlight mod, its switching the headlight on without it popping up, and the light shines through the lens. Some people said tapping off the Red/white wire on the harness and connect it to the ground, but i am not sure which headlight harness do i tap in to, is it the turn signal switch harness or the headlight switch signal harness, they both on the right side of the dash, one with smaller plug and the other is a bit bigger, they both have Red/white wire, so please advise, thanks.

are you using the pivot controller? if so i can go check right now, since my dash just happens to be apart right now.

oh, then make it easy on yourself and just build a switch for the retractor fuse. its in the engine bay. thats the easiest way. Or I think icemark sells a cleaner switch.

Open up the lightswitch, un-solder the main board, remove Diode marked D4, re-assemble the switch.

Then the headlights will not come up, unless you turn the cleaner switch up.

I do sell a headlight switch assembly that does the same thing, so that only the cleaner switch pops up the lights, otherwise they shine through the FTP, however I only have the Left hand drive ones (like used on North America and Europe) and since FC507 is in Wales and they drive on the right hand side the switch is different for those RHD models.

You don't need to touch the switch or anything in the engine bay. Follow these very simple instructions:

http://aaroncake.net/RX-7/lights.htm

It is highly recommended you operate the lights via an ignition-switched relay. Using a manual switch is just asking for a flat battery...

that is just DRL...My modification simply removes the headlight up function from the big **** and leaves it on the small cleaner ****.

Not really the same as having your headlights come on (but stay down) anytime the car is on.

That's basically what he asked for ("switching the headlight on without it popping up, and the light shines through the lens"). Unless he intends to use this at night, which would be extremely retarded.

Putting a switch on any of the relay's wires will allow you to switch them on and off, but this way there's zero risk of accidentally leaving them on.

Sorry to dig up this thread, but this is exactly what I want to do... I've popped open the cover of my headlight switch, and I'm a little curious as to which contacts I de-solder to remove the main-board. Or if perhaps there's an easier way to remove this diode.

Unfortunately, I don't have a solder pump, I just have solder wicks.. so.. it'll take me a little while, but.. I want to make sure I'm only desoldering contacts that I need to.

Let me know, thanks

can i remove the d4 diode without removing the main board? i was thinkining if i knew where the diode was i could just remove it from behind. heres the picture from the link above, i highlighted (in pink) what i think to be the d4 diode. can someone confirm this so i can be 100% sure. thanks

I have mine in my hand right now.... You would have to cut a hole in the plastic case. I wouldn't want to compromise the integrity of the unit itself.. besides, its always nice to have fresh solder on your contacts.

But, if you want to shortcut.... Please do. add it to the wiki.
