Cool Headlight Intake??

Hey I am trying to find the headlight intake for the first gen. Does anyone have a link where it can be found? Really would like to get one to go with the Cold Air Box I am going to make. Thanks a lot folks.

yes, Mariah has a fresh air head light cover, you might also want to try http://www.rx7.com for one as well.

Question

Just curious, will a headlight intake (with a cold air box and cone filter)produce a noticeable HP gain (like 5-10hp) or is it just another one of those ricer mods??

Isn't the headlight in a very low pressure area? I think it wouldn't help much at all. But I could be wrong.

headlight intake = rice

Home Depot funnel + appropriate snipping, and ducting = junk yard dog intake

It's just a quetion of form over funtion

I'd rather have a functional JYD than rice

form over function....
You know that they work, why else do you see countless cars at drag races and road races w/ no right headlight.
Just take a minute to think of how the rice works before you criticize it.
I think they're pretty ugly, because I'm a symmetrical man myself, but hell if it works and you don't mind then go for it.
Now an unpainted CF headlight intake is gettin ricey.

Actually the factory intake is not that bad. I see many gripes about the "restrictive” intake. I have looked over my 91, and assuming you have a good air cleaner, the two main restrictions are the MAF sensor (which most of us are stuck with) and the hood prop rod.
I have yet to see a post about the hood prop. It stows directly in the intake path.
I removed the stock prop, and stow an aluminum tube in the groove behind the snorkel on the fan shroud.

I say if you like the look - do it, but don't look for much power gain.

Question Hey breesej, have you looked at your bumper lately?

Can't believe you would call a headlight intake a "rice" mod and have that pic of that headlight conversion under your name. Is it just me? or could someone else confuse THAT PIC as rice?

I think the real question is which headlight intake scoop works better the Mariah one or the KSP one from RX7.com or any other one their might be, I'd say the KSP one just because it looks like it would grab more air then the Mariah intake.

The headlight intake won't work for two reasons. There is no air path between the area where the headlight sits and the engine bay where the intake is. It's solid metal! You'd need to cut a hole in this panel for it to work, in which case you might as well run flexible ducting from the grille area to this hole. This brings me to the second reason; according to Mazda's airflow pressure diagram for the FC the headlight area is a very low pressure area, so there would be very little flow through it The grille under the bumper is a high pressure area so would work much better. Your headlight intake is also going to be useless as soon as you raise the lights.
