hi i just finished installing a rb streetable header on my car although i have kept my cat on the system and now it seems like all it did was make my car louder and slower? i am confused? does the 02 sensor need special wire or something cuz i used regulare wire to hook it up? would that cause a prob? thanx alot brandon

Freeing up the exhaust system on a pre 89 6-port system will most likely cause the 6-ports not to function because they are operted by backpressure from the exhaust... get somebody to rev 'er up to about 6k and poke yer head under the hood and see ifn' they open as he's revving 'er up... if not... then you're gonna have to either wire 'em open and lose your low end... or buy a summit racing rpm switch, a solenoid valve, some vaccume line and push an air line tap into the plumbing from your air pump run that to the solenoid, then split it after the solenoid to each six port actuator to get the pressure needed to open them......

Hes still running a cat....6 ports should have more than enough pressure. You can run the rb header, the pre-silecner with has a feed tube for the 6 ports and its enough get the actuators to move.

Also, some poeple have had their 6ports open with gutted cats, for what that's worth.

yeah.. it all depends on you car... as we know.. our girls are alll different!!! I'm just one for mechanical override!!!! I hate depending on exhaust pressure.. to many variables...(leaks, backpressure, forgot to hook it up!!) I want it to work exactly when I want it to!!!!!!! LOL
I actually designed an electric solenoid system to open the things once and cut the air pressure equasion out all together.. but then, i had access to a machine shop to get the brackets made to install the solenoids in place of the air operated actuators, don't have that luxury now!! but.... someone out there should take that idea and make a kit..... hey, maybe i should!!!!

at the track I run around 15.1, but i have an '89, little more power... if you don't have a fresh air headlight cover... you can do one of two things to get colder air into your intake at the trak... 1) remove the passenger side headlight skin... 2, pull your headlight motor relay out and manually (by the little thing underneath the car crank up your passenger side headlight about an inch which will let air in between the back of the headlight and the hood.. but you have to remove the gasket on the front of the hood for that to work.. I averaged about 2 tenths better ET's after i got cold air into the box!!

To some more N/A guys with non ignorant responses...is it desirable to just run off the header at the track, I'm running the RB. My ports are wired open right now so that wouldnt be a factor.....seems like it'd give you the best power exhaust wise. Whos ran with my similiar setup, no engine porting (not meaning manifold)??
