header wrap. overall: good or bad?

so my heat shields on my Turbo motor are pretty shot. it's not inside the car yet and i was thinking of looking at some form of header wrap.

i have a few questions and have come up with these threads...

is it true that overtime, if you wrap your DP, manifold, and hot side it'll crack?

i'm aware what wrap does for your intake temps etc. i just want to know the negative effects.

also, what's the highest temperature you'll see on the hotside/manifold?

around 1300-1400?

Is the body mounted aluminum shield behind the down pipe still there?

Heat wrap is most effective where the exhaust has to be piped some distance to the turbine.
After the turbine you want pressure drop.
If you wrap the downpipe, you loose some boost potential, but you will keep the surrounding area cooler.

About manifold cracks - It's the rate of heat rise & cool down, more than just max temps, that stresses the casting.
Heat wrap or heat shields should actually reduce cracking.

The bottom line: Shield the manifold & hot side.
If thats impractical, wrap them, but leave the downpipe bare.
You can then shield the nearby body & other accessories seperately.

thanks for that.. i should also point out that my UIM/LIM and FMIC piping will be powdercoated. i want intake and under hood temps as low as possible.

no, the body mounted shields are not there. i'm guessing the last owner removed them. i guess i'll just be wrapping my hotside/manifold and TRY to fab up something for the DP when the time comes.
