having problems with my starter
hey, my starter wasn't working anymore so I got a new set of brushes and put it in there.
I put the starter back but when I tried to start the car it wouldn't work.
The starter also began to get really hot, especially the part where the brushes are.
I tested the starter with a battery, and it does turn all right.
Anyone knows what's up? It's on an 88 SE.
thanks!

This might be different for S5 cars and automatics and maybe even TIIs. My car is an 88 SE.
Ok, this are the brushes and is usually the only part that needs replacing in a starter to make it work again.
You can get this at Autozone for about $14.00.

1) Ok, first you need to take out your starter. It's located in the driver side toward the back of the engine.
2) You'll need to open the blue part. When you take it out, you should be able to take out the brushes.
3) Take the whole new ones you got from Autozone and put them in. Don't forget the round rubber part should be facing up.
4) Put it back in the starter and put the screws back in. The wire coming out of the brushes goes in the green box.
5) Time to put it back in the car. The red box is connected directly to the battery cable. Put back everything else.
6) Start the car. Who-wo it should start!
Anyone else is welcome to write a better write up. I know mine sucks!
