Having oil cooler flushed some Qs

Question Having oil cooler flushed some Qs

Well i had my dad call the only place in town that flushes things, and they mainly do tranny coolers. They are an industrial place so they should know their ****. I have heard that there is a thermostat in FC oil coolers, my dad mentioned to they guys at the place to make sure to open the thermostat when the flush my oil cooler, as i told him to say. They said they have never heard of a thermostat being in any type of cooler,, so hmmm wtf? is there one or not.

IMHO, I would the avoid that place and send it to a shop that knows how to properly flush a thermostatically controlled oil cooler.

holy ****, the oil cooler does have a thermostat?!?! Exactly how and when would you replace it?

I had mine ultra-sonicly cleaned. Sonic cleaning removes any migration of metal particles.

As expained before in previous posts on this topic. In order to ensure 100% cleanlinees, a heated filtered flushing medium most be used to ensure proper cleaning of the cooler.

Go to FC3S.org and download the lubrication section, look on page 2-16, the bypass valve needs to open at 149^F

Actually, the funny thing is that they have to CLOSE the thermostat to properly flush the cooler. So what they are flushing needs to be heated up. Not sure the exact temperature, but I'd imagine that 160 is good enough...

What about removing the thermostat? Then flushing it. Would it work?

No. It's hard to explain without being able to see it, but the thermostat actually closes off the bypass when it warms up. If the thermostat is removed, it will always bypass the cooler core.

I posted this. I believe me getting my cooler flushed at place you are going to take yours is why my engine failed after 2000 miles.
