Question Haven't seen this problem yet on threads.

Need some help. I have a 86 NA, 13,000 on
new 13B, 65,000 original miles. While driving approx 35mph, my car suddenly lurched, lost most power and I parked it. It started back up, Idle was extremely rough, and threw blue smoke out the exhaust. Towed it home, next day started it and had same symptoms. Car was perfect until this. Good power for an automatic. Oil is fine, by looking at other threads, compression, plugs are other concerns I need to look into. Has anyone had this exact scenario occur? Please help - This is an awesome car, but the manuals on RX7's don't provide much troubleshooting info in them. One more: can I check codes on this car? and how? Thanks in advance.
Bone stock car, no mods at this time.
Am mechanically inclined if know what to look for.

first things first, check the compression and go from there. Blue smoke is either lots of oil or coolant being burned. The rough idle and no power could be an apex seal deciding it wanted out of the engine.

I'd say the first thing to do is check the electrical connector of the AFM. Sounds like the AFM may be unpluged.

Thanks, for the tips. Apex is my worst fear.
Rob or anyone... what does AFM stand for, and where do I locate it? Still learning.

Air Flow Meter, right underneath the airbox.

AFM = air flow meter. It is located at the passenger side shock tower - black box with a plastic hose entering and exiting it.

Welp, at least you did the right thing and parked it when it started going bad on you. I drove mine on in to town (36 miles), soon as I let off the gas it died and no more starty.
