have three ways to go on my next mod, help decide!

okay, so basically i currently have an NA S5, with an S4 motor (S5 ECU): https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hreadid=303392

i recently have saved up some money to spend on it, but have come to a crossroads on what to get. i figured taking a poll here wouldn't hurt any (hopefully).

anyways,
OPTION 1 is a short shifter, either from Mazdatrix or Mazdaracing.com. this is something i believe will add to the drivability and enjoyment of the car. plus, my bushings need to be replaced anyways, and i just find the stock shifter a little long in the throws for my liking. this mod would be the least time consuming, but IMO also the least in terms of gain in pure performance (i.e power). but hey, maybe it'll let me shift quicker

OPTION 2 is a new exhaust system from the cat back. actually, there will be no catalytic convertor with this mod, which consists of replacing the main cat with a test pipe, and replacing the two corroded POS mufflers with some aftermarket ones. recently put in was a new Y-pipe, so that will stay. i say this is the middle in terms of time and performance gain.

OPTION 3 is the biggest in terms of time and hp gain. this involves purchasing an entire S5 intake manifold to replace the S4 one. along with the addition of the VDI system that is inherent to this mod, i will also be taking this opportunity to port the manifold and also do the throttle body mod. again, this will take a LOT of time.

so those are the options i am contemplating. the thing is, these will all eventually be done, albeit slowly b/c i am a cheap ***, it's just the order that i am going to do them. the biggest thing right now is time, and i won't have much until another month or so. but if there is over whelming support to do the manifold swap, i may just do it first...

oh yeah, these all COST roughly the same...but time is money, right?

Based on Ryan's bible of modding (order of operation)
exhaust comes first

holy crap, everyone says exhaust. yeah, i know exhaust is first powertrain wise, but like i said, my shifter is very sloppy right now, it even gets stuck sometimes, and i couldn't see doing one first over the other option. but looks like there is a lot of suggestions for exhaust, so...i guess now i will have to do exhaust first, lol...

edit: oh, and i am by no means a stranger to the archives. it's just that i am deciding between three mods that are little hard to decide between, since one of them is not associated with the powertrain (new shifter). as for new intake and exhaust, i am just trying to get my engine back to S5 spec a bit with the intake. plus, both would let the engine breath easier...
