Hatch Cover
I was wondering, i saw an s5 with a cover that went straight and then dropped, it was used to cover whatever you had in the hatch, does anyone have this, is it stock s5? and if not were can i buy it and can it be put on an s4.
It was an option on the s5, (dunno if it was on the s4). It should fit in a s4 and if you are lucky it may still be available from the mazda dealershit.. (lol.. that was a typo, I just had to leave it tho...)
...although I'm not sure lucky is the right word...
damn $$$

I have one on my S5. i love it, keeps stuff hidden
. it has special rear speaker covers that the cover hinges on, and "ledges" in the back that it rests on. I am sure you could fit it into the series 4 car, but you might have to do a little fabrication to make it work.
The problem is finding someone who's willing to give theirs up. Because these are old, they are often beat up, creased, and non existant. Id be willing to sell mine for the right price...

I fitted It on my S4 no problem. However, I swapped out my Blue Leather Interior for that of S5 (Black Turbo II cloth seats with cover). Apparently the Turbo II mixmatched some many or even the wrong parts, his engine bay caught on fire. Don't know the whole story. I'm lucky to have had right timing. Anyway this mod I regard to be the best uptodate.
The cover Is a $300 Dealer option. I was telling the parts guy the story of how I acquired the Interior and replied, In a matter of fact, that It Is $300can.
Didn't know this option was for a s4? Hmm...

It's standard on the 89-91 Turbo IIs and optional on most other cars. It "snaps" right behind the cargo compartments, "hinges" into the speaker grills, and "hangs" by ropes attached to the hatch.
If your car already has the "speaker grill holes" for it, then your missing your original.
If not and you want upgrade, you'll need to order these parts from your local Mazda dealership.
- rear speaker grills with holes for the hatch cover "pins"
- "hangers" that screw into the hatch (comes with ropes)
- the hatch cover itself (be sure to specify the right color)
- possibly the snaps for the carpet if your car doesn't have them.

Of course the S4 kit had the support rod came out and that it was able to fold in half for easy storage when you needed the entire hatch area. And the front panel was loose vinyl that velcro'd to the floor just behind the storage bins. While the hangers that you mention simply went around the struts, rather than are screwed into the hatch itself.

i just built my own ....just went to home depot bought plywood ,black carpet ,glue and cut a template from cardboard ,i then cut the plywood and carpet to glued the carpet on and then stapled the bottom part .looks great ...sorry i have no digital camera!
One came with the '90 GXL I purchased a little over a year ago. Cover was beat to hell so I threw it away. Mazda dealer said it was available (red) and if I recall correctly it was over $300. I passed on it.
Jodoolin,
I'm a bit of a purist "MUST HAVE ORIGINAL MAZDA COVER"
I even get upset when there's "blanks" in the dash where switches obviously should have been
"I really hate when there's wiring harness connectors not connect to anything." Usually that's engine heaters or AAS auto shocks - so no big woop.
NOTE!!!
I belive the 89-91s cargo covers are the ONLY ones available now. Mazda's discontinued "redundant" parts (ie the 89-91 parts work fine in the 86-88).
The 86-88 ones were "slopped down" and the 89-91 ones "slopped up"

I believe the '86-88 cargo cover was not made by Mazda, but was made by an aftermarket company and sold at Mazda dealers. This is similar to the glass Pacific moonroofs - they were sold at dealers as an add-on to the car.
Icemark, do you have a picture of your hatch cover? I think it's similar to one I've seen in old RX-7 Magazines.

If you do have old copies of the Rotary Rocket and Mazda RX-7 Club of America, it was pretty common to see, as everyone wanted it. I occasionally see them on Ebay as well.
Next time I am at my folks house in San Diego (probably at the end of the month) I'll look through my boxes of old Rotary Rockets and MRX-7CoA newsletters that I stored down there and see if I can find a picture to scan.
