pull the UIM and you reach it just fine.

I justs used a couple of extensions and a universal joint. If its starting to round, you might want to get an impact wrench on the end of your extension/universal system. What a shitty place for a stubborn bolt/nut. I guess I was lucky. Good luck.

yea its the biggest pita on this car as of yet. i figured the uim removed would help, just though id see if i was missing a shortcut. do you guys think there would be any ill effects if that was not put back on during reassembly, i know for sure that i will be removing the tranny at least one more time in the near future, maybe twice and i really dont want to deal with that damn thing again. seems like its a wimpy nut and stud anyways so it cant be carry much load or stress.

after you remove the trans mount you can jack up the trans/motor about 3 inches. that gives you the room you need in the engine compartment to attack the bolt. buy a 6 pt box wrench since its rounded. I would also have someone hold a prybar on the box end of the wrench to keep it from slipping off when you go to break the bolt loose.

If you get a LOT of extensions you can also get a ratchet on it, from under the car... run the extentions down the tranny tunnel... it takes quite a few...

And no, leave that f'ing bolt out... everyone I've heard of leaves it out, no problems... and I beat on my car.

Take some advice from a guy that's been turning wrenches for over 20 years now- buy a set of cheap Craftsman combo end wrenches (metric for our cars), and cut them in half. Viola- cheap stubby wrenches

you can use a gear rachet that allows the bolt go through it, or a ratchet wrench. I have a set of gear rachet( is a rachet with socket that allow you to put it on a long stud with the stud going right through the rachet) and it worked fine with me..
