Has anyone here used a ROM tuned ECU here?

hey guys, i was looking at several minor power upgrades and i came across some ECU with refined programming. Has anyone here used one of these? (ex, re amemiya Redom) do these ecu actually make a difference? would it better add along a piggy back (safc, emanage) to get some good power at a small price? thakns -alex

I've had a G Force ecu ('89TII) for the past 4 years. What a difference. 10/11 lbs from the start, with increased fuel, etc built in. With just the bonez DP (2.5") and stock intake, FD pump, and still the factory mufflers (I bought the car new) it'll do the 40/70 3rd gear run in 4.1 seconds. Best investment I ever made.

are you still running the stock turbo with it? have you done anything else to correct fuel?

it works, because the company roughly gueses at what your mods are and has tuned for them. So it's better than the stock ecu for a lightly modified car. From your mods, it looks like a modded ecu or piggyback will be sufficient. However, to truly optimize your car and to get maximum power, you'll need to get a standalone (megasquirt + wideband is just $400) and tune it.

edit: If you're no longer using the stock turbo, I would definitely go standalone.

Yes they work!!! I bet your looking on ebay... arent you? I bought one earlier this year. It was a gamble but it worked out in the end. Mine is from a company called "Power House Amuse". They normaly cater to hondas, and they're flagship computer is for the S2000 with some record holding lap time.

I came across mine for $145, it was WELL worth the money I spent. I definitely noticed a difference when the boost kicked in and overall driving (especially in higher rpm). no redline, no fuel cut, no speed limit, upped my boost. I lost the CHECK ENGINE light function though.

for your application, I think it would make a big difference. i'm sure it could handle a BNR stage I upgrade but for high hp, i'd go standalone like gingenhagen said.

i had a knightsports ecu for my 89 t2 conversion. tuned to 1 bar, no fuel cut, rpm limit, speed limiter, 3k rpm startup. was very quick with stock turbo and intercooler although i upgraded to a walbro fuel pump. never had a problem, but never got a chance to run a wideband to see what kind of a/f ratios it had, but smelled quite rich.
