Has anyone bought from this place?...

http://jdmengineworld.com/index.php?...products_id=79

a 13B-T S5 for about $1300...seems to me like a damn good deal...tyranny...wires...ecu...the whole works....minus the car...which i already have...

my concern is...how legit are they?...my feelers are going off and saying....if it's too good to be true...more than likely....it is...

what do u guys think?

You don't need any tyranny! Haha

But in all seriousness, I'd avoid JDM engines. There's a fellow on here with the screen name Japan2LA. He gets engines and actually checks them to see if they are good.

Most places, it's hit or miss.

yeah...i was browsing in the 1st gen forum and some say the t2 tryanny is better...and then some say that...it doesn't matter...

i figure...hell...if it comes as a complete package...what the hell...

a tyranny for $200...i've never seen them so cheap...

did a rebuild tyranny for a customer...who had a 97 GMC 4x4 snow plow...and i charged him $1700 for removal...rebuild and install...and i gave him a damn good deal...normally it would be about $2500...

that's why when i started looking at some engines for these rx7...and i see them...a complete package like this....for $1300...i'm like....wow....to me....it's almost too good to be true...

If you're interested in a local swap, here you go for $1,100:

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ra...313028778.html

But obviously his S4 to S5 hasn't gone very well...You can at least compression test it and check it out in person. Just make sure it's not a hack job. The last thing you want is to inherit someone else's failed project. I say stay S4 as it'll probably be easier, and you can get the S4 to S5 power levels without much work.

so i called up the guy and i talked to him...he says his s4 body/dashboard connector harness won't plug into the ECU...therefore he can't use the engine...i wonder if i'll have that same problem with either the s4 or s5 engine...

anyone know?

Sounds like he has a JDM S5 wiring harness and the USDM S4 wiring harness...neither one is a direct swap. He needs a S5 harness for his N370 ECU

is that some sort of adapter that goes from the dash harness to the new s5 ecu interface?...because i'm sure his dash harness is set...or does all he need is a new S5 ecu that will accept the S4 dash interface?

the wiring between series is completely different. you use your stock wiring and get the matching series turbo electronics for your stock wiring.

S4 = N318 pressure sensor and air flow meter. N332/N333 ECU

S5= N370 ECU, pressure sensor, and airflow meter.

otherwise you have a big rewiring headache.

S4s and S5s are practically different cars when it comes to wiring/sensors/ECU. Using an engine from the same series is the easiest & best route, otherwise you have to do some major re-wiring, or swap out all of the sensors to match the series the chassis is. See FAQ. I put links in there.

And a TII transmission is much more stout than the NA versions. I hate the NA synchros with a passion. While you can get away without switching transmissions (to a certain level of torque), it's a significant upgrade.

you weren't even close! tyranny from tyrant, which is "one who illegally seizes and controls a governmental power in a polis."

i highly doubt that you could put someone like that behind your engine and expect them to turn the driveshaft.... even a JDM one
