hard top
first off im new here, so if this is the wrong section, sorry...but i have a couple of questions, i dont really know alot about cars(trying to learn)...anyways, heres my deal, i found a 89 rx-7 for 500 bucks, the guy said it needs a new driveshaft, so i went on ebay and looked and i found a couple, but is there anything about the driveshafts that i need to look for specifically (its a 5-speed if that has anything to do with it)...also, its a convertabile, but the rag top is in pretty bad condition, so could i just buy a hardtop and put it on there? if so were could i find one and would there be alot of work in it? anything specific i should look for when i go test drive it? also, it has dual tips, does that mean its a turbo or what? sorry for my ignorance about cars, but if anyone could help me i would appreciate it....thanks

Welcome.
To answer most of your questions, check the FAQ and Stickies for the FC at the top of the forum. All FC's had dual exhaust stock, Turbo cars had a hoodscoop and an intercooler right under it. No US spec convertibles came turbo stock.
This page ahs some good info.
http://www.aaroncake.net/RX-7/tech1.htm
Be sure to check out the "How to buy a N/A RX-7" page.
Also, all 86-91 RX-7's are FC's and Just so you're not confused:
S4= 86-88 RX-7's
S5= 89-91 RX-7's
There was a 92 FC, but it was a converiable and we didn't get any in America.
Hope that helps.

Turbo was NOT an option on verts in the US, that`s why I added mine. All of the RX-7`s of that era had dual tips standard. As far as the rest of the car, it sounds like a good deal. I paid $525 for an 88 vert. with a blown motor but a good top, and after a motor swap got about $3200 for it. $500 for a running series 5 vert. is a great deal, just buy a top on e-bay or one of the fine vendors recommended here and have fun with the car.
Good luck

I think I'm addicted
hey having a vert must be cool ^_^
to my understanding, no hard tops or aftermarket hard tops were avaliable for the FC vert
usually, hard tops for cars is when there isn't one already like the miata, no hard top version, so they made a removable hard top.... u see the new fairladies 350Z verts.... if u want to get a hard top for it, u have to buy the coupe version... no hard to avaliable for a car if it has a hard top version out....
