hard dirt caked inside bottom of door

i'm using metal wool to try and remove it but it seems to be removing that yellow metal protectant stuff along with it. How do you normally clean it out?

If it's just dirt soak it down with water and leave a wet rag on it. That should hydrate the dirt enough to help get it off. Maybe even mix in some dish soap.
