Haltech TPS??

I was checking my haltech tps on my spare ported TB. The readings never seem to go to the same ohms on closed throttle.

Also it seems to be really jumpy. goes from 780ohms to 2.5kohms then jumps to around 7kohms and then over 10kohms.

Is this normal!!! I thought this was supposed to be linear!!

thanks,
Ian

I'm a bit confused...

You're trying to check the resistance of the GM TPS on your FC TB?

I'm trying to check the resistance on the supplied Haltech TPS. Its bolt on my TB know since I have made a braket for it.

Never checked it before I installed but should be the same not installed.

In other words yes ted

Thanks

Don't know if this helps any. But on my 88, there seems to be some wear in the throttle shaft and the cam that activates the TPS. The shaft sticks a little bit when it goes to the closed position and it causes the TPS ohm readings to vary. I can also see it when I drive because the shift up light flickers as the throttle closes. I guess in technical terms I would call it shaft hysteresis.

Try twisting the throttle shaft closed with your hand and see if you get the right reading at closed position. You'll be able to feel the shaft move if it sticks.

Mine's all stock, 100K miles. It's been doing this for awhile. I've never had the time to really see if I could fix it. It's just worn out.

I will take some pictures this weekend and post my bracket that I have made up.

I don't think the bracket has anything to do with the irregular readings. I figured it should be linear and steady ramp from 0? to 10K. I don't have the throttle body attached to the car since its sitting at my desk at work because I was porting and removing the secondary? plates.

Thanks for the input.

Oh and dam my spelling and type sucks

Have you got the Haltech ECU connected?&nbsp You can try and watch the TPS actuation via the Haltech through the TPS calibration menu.

Be careful with some of the "cheaper" DMM's out there.&nbsp I noticed a lot of the autoranging ECU's tend to "jump to infinity" consistently at a certain point when checking resistance of the TPS.&nbsp Is yours an autoranging one?

Thanks ted but I have not even started to install my Haltech. I was just getting a few things ready so it will be more or less drop in.

i was using a Fluke 744 Process meter. I believe these things are like $3500cdn and it was from work. I will try another meter and see I had it set to autorange and saw this range change so I switched it to 10k fixed range. Still was jumpy above 2.5k.
Not sure if the E6K reads this differently or has some damping effect on its readouts??

thanks

Oh, that looks bad...
Fluke makes GREAT meters!

At the very least, a replacement TPS is pretty cheap.

Any GM dealer should be able to get you one.&nbsp Else, Paul @ K2RD can get you one pretty reasonably, if you can't find it locally.&nbsp Walk into the parts department with the TPS and ask them to find a replacement...

Ok thanks ted. Maybe someone can give me the tps GM #.

This bracket I made is temporary as a new one will be made more accurate and be stainless. Hopefully this set-up will not hit anything.

I'm going to have to say the bracket is your problem.

Take the TPS off the TB and test it that way, just go from one extreme to the other with a screwdriver in the D bore, I bet you the results are consistently reproducable.

My guess is those stilts you have the plate attached to are flexing a small amount, in the pictures alone they don't even look parallel to one another.

The TPS cannot move at all not one smidge in
relation to the throttle body, your bracket has too much room for flex in my opinion.

just my $.02

pengarufoo,

I cannot move the whole assemble by hand so it seems to be pretty secure?

I will see on monday if removing it has anything to do with it. The issue really is that it can jump from 2.5 to 10k with no noticable flex in the bracket.

I appreciate the input and will try as suggested.
Thanks

Not sure if I can get an extra made

Anyhow now off to the dam injectors Having a bitch installing them. Hope they will hold.
