Half shaft popped out

Trying the replace the front diff mount. The half shaft popped out. Its the part inside the boot on the differential side NOT the wheel side. I can see the bulb part rotate a lil.

Somebody please tell me this is an easy fix.

You don't explain anything about what you were doing when the half shaft 'popped out'. But, on the diff side, it's supposed to pop out relatively easily...just a pry bar between the diff housing and the flange. It should 'pop' back in just as easily. The procedure is explained well in the Factory Service Manual.

I thought it was self explanatory how it popped out. To get to the front diff mount I unbolted the shock and subframe. The hub fell lower than expected. And the half shaft came out.

Im confused on that procedure. The way it separated I cannot tell weather its lined up properly, the brake rotor can turn about 90 or so degrees without the shaft moving where it connects inside the boot.

OK. I unbolted the half shaft from the diff. The inner part just moves around. Should I just take the boot off and look? Is it possible that something broke?

I took the boot off. The ball bearings fell out. Can anybody direct me to the part number for the Large Clip that holds the Bearing Race in place?

Sounds like your CV joint fell apart. That is what is inside the rubber boot. At this point your only option may be a new/another half shaft if you can't find the pieces to reassemble it. Rockauto.com only lists a replacement boot or a reman'd half shaft.

Ordered a replacement from rock auto they sent something different from the pic.

That raybestos kit doesnt have the ring. its 80mm, Mazdatrix has it but they have to order it from a dealer in Cali. And they want 60 dollars plus shipping. I dont have time for that.

I decided to straiten out the ring. Ill be more careful if I drop the suspension next time.

So happens I have an N/A half shaft with a hub side spline that is frozen to the hub. If yours is NA, I can send you the retaining ring from the diff side CV.

Thats the one I ordered. The part number on the box I have is 1032861. Rock auto has too many redundant part numbers. But the Picture is the same.

For that you can get the whole halfshaft from rockauto. 44.99 plus the 30.00 core charge, but you should get the core back.

What did you end up doing with rock auto here? I just ordered that 1039859 kit from them and that 80mm ring is not in the box, but pictured on the site. Called them and they have to call beck/arnely apparently since they "have sold 30 of these and never had a call on it".

It's clearly pictured on the listing, so I am a bit bummed. I have the original, but I like getting what I pay for as well.

Follow up call from RockAuto just now: "beck arnley updated the design and the big clip is no longer needed"......I'm sorry? Last I checked it IS needed to secure the bearing holder to the actual shaft. Am I taking crazy pills?

Regardless, I still have my factory clip, but just a heads up to anyone before they buy PN: 1032859. I told the tech to remove the picture then, and he said he already did.
