Nice and cold out. RX-7 loves the weather. I went to see "From Hell" a freaky, but interesting movie. Coming home I had a great time using the cold air induced power. Then I hit a huge bump.
****.
Airborne.
**** again.
Long story short, something came loose in the exhuast system. No idea what. Very pissed. Time to sleep now. No clue what came loose. Have to make a closer investitgation later. Hopefully it is something minor. Give y'all an update later.

He, he. Yeah, well fortunately mine isn't fatal so I guess it'll be ok. Certainly not as depressing as yours. Oh well, I am getting a new headr and pre-silencer soon, so hopefully it is something wrong with the manifold or the main cat, or mid-pipe, as they are all going away before too long.
The night before I bought my last sport bike the owner and I went for a test ride, he was on his new bike.
Anyway, we went on a nice backroad and I hit some railroad tracks that had about a 40 degree angle at about 80 MPH. It wasn't intentional, I didn't see the tracks until it was too late. Yeah, I went very airborne on that one. I don't know how far I actually ramped, but I almost landed on the other guy.
When the bike landed the rear tire touched down first with the front of the bike at a 45 degree angle compared to the road. My rear brake was locked up and it slammed the front of the bike down. The next day my nuts were pretty sore from being thrown forward into the tank.
Somehow I touched down okay and keet the bike up, but I popped the seals on the front forks.

About two weeks ago now, I had a little mishap, too.
I was justing sliding around in an open parking lot, y'know, enjoying the scenery
. Unfortunately, a cement wall came out of nowhere and hit the passenger side of my rear bumper.
That sucked.
I screwed up by bumper cover something fierce (it actually ripped it apart) and shoved my muffler towards the front of the car about six inches. As it went forward, it also moved a bit to the outside of the car and began rubbing against the inside of my tire. The worst part is that the impact caused my custom (read: homemade, but looks good) aluminum center console to go flying into my passenger seat, tearing out any and all of my little wiring that controlled my brake lights and running lights.
What a drive home. No music, no brake lights, muffler scraping against my tire (only on turns), and I needed gas.
This is a nice little collection of war stories we have going on here.

Well I checked it out today: Both mufflers have come loose from the exhaust pipe. All the way around they just came apart. Combination of age and abuse I am sure. Oh well I get to ride around in a loud as hell car for a while and I now have an excuse to get an aftermarket cat-back. So with the good comes the bad the bad comes the good and Imma gonna live my life like I should. Ok so that last line is a blatant rip off of Limp Bizkit but it just jumped into my mind.

Getting back to war stories I was driving my 87 GXL with aftermarket turbo along a nice straight 4 lane road. I had my right foot pretty much into throttle, actually it was slammed down for a few minutes, in 5th gear and I experienced rapid deceleration. Not the teeth in the steering wheel kind but I slowed down to about 100 mph. Seeing I was doing about 140 mph, I was concerned?! Then I looked in the rear view mirror to check to make sure it was safe to pull over; I couldn't see any cars, but it wasn't because there was none, it was because I had a huge black smokescreen bellowing out the exhaust pipes. I thought I screwed the engine but it still revved nice? But I no longer had boost? I pulled over and looked in the engine compartment and everything looked fine? I drove her home nice and easy. I dropped the exhaust off of it when I got home and found the source of the problem; I had seized a bearing in the turbo and the turbine and shaft had sheered off. I reached in the turbo and removed the turbine and part of the shaft. What had happened was that the oil to the turbo was pumping right into the exhaust hence the smokescreen. Now I know why the turbo kit manufacturer said to limit full boost high speeds to around a minute!!!!
