I've thought about it, and the factory HIDs from VW GTI BLOW the hids from my FC out of the water. There is really no comparison, not even close; although I totally expect that from a OEM setup vs a chinesse setup that cost less than $300

I dont think so, I actually did take comparison photos when I first put them in when I did my parking lot spaces test, only way I could figure to easily measure how far I could effectively see.
The comparison in the photos was not really showing up as well as it was in person- I was going more for comparison sake though not to show how they lit the road up
if I remember next time im driving the car at night ill try for some pics, but it could be a while i normally dont drive the car this time of year

I retro'd my own set of lights using some d2s and morimoto stuff all from retrofitsource.com

That's pretty much my setup. Cant remember which version of the D2s, but it has to be version 1, or 2 at the most. I purchased my D2s from ebay, where (if I am reading things correctly) the retrofit source use a different lens.

i bought all my stuff right from them so I cant speak for ebay quality from other vendors.
for the price of another pair of d2 ( new improved version now ) I would try those before shelling out for these LED's which I really think you will be disappointed with

VA Halogen lights

I recently bought these below. These were $20 each and the light was awesome for that price. I couldnt believe how much more light this was. I also could not believe it was so cheap either. I had been researching and looking here and there. You can see the stock light output vs the new light output. These are halogen lights though. Just figured I would post this since I recently put these in.

SYLVANIA H6054 SilverStar High Performance Halogen Sealed Beam Headlight 142x200. I didnt take any pictures out and about but could very easily if someone was curious.

Agree, and for the record, I will not be trying the LEDs, that's R-X-R.

I have a couple of ideas, maybe add a set of bi-xenon projectors as fog lamps, and operate 4 projectors at the same time, that ought to bright things up.

Which kit did you buy ?
I've looked at them but worried about clearance. After getting a retrofit for the Carrera, the TII needs a set.

i used stuff from retrofitsource.com, which is where all vendors on this forum buy from when they make their lights.

it was d2s projectors, miromoto ballasts, etc.
this was a while ago they have new d2s now I can only imagine they have been improved even further

I have those on my car and they are very bright. Only problem I have had so far is that driving in the snow it was blinding. But since I don't plan to do that anymore, I'm fine with these.

The silverstars were blinding in the snow because the beam optics are based on 1970's dot standards, and light is being diffused and directed upwards to illuminate road signs.

I'll say it again....

For a drop in replacement, with zero modifications required, you cannot beat ' e-codes ' made by Hella or Cibie. The performance is spectacular, you can use whatever h4 halogen bulb you want, etc.

Check out rallylights.com, that's where I got mine.

Ok gotcha. I do not plan on driving in the snow and have not got to experience that. They are pretty sweet lights for the price. I guess If I was doing it again I might try what Acesanugal suggested. But if you do not have the $100 plus the cost of bulbs for the newer ones the silverstar are great lights for $40 with great light output.

I suppose it depends on what one deems as 'great' light output. E-codes blow any sealed beam out of the water for output and clarity, without blinding oncoming motorists. And I really do mean blow them out of the water.

I chose the osram hyper bulbs.

Side by side comparison? Don't be ridiculous. surely you can do your own Google search and find others who have their beam patterns on a wall, compare it yourself. The sealed beam, silverstars or not, is essentially a flat, rectangular Hotspot with bleed light surrounding it, where as the e-codes essentially throw light like a good quality modern halogen projector with the European 'step flair'

The difference on the road in front of you leaves no question.

As for glare.. no real comparison is needed. It's a significant difference.

This subject is so well covered on the Internet, I'm not going to waste my time proving my point with additional links. If you want to spend half the cost of e-codes or more on lights that are just O.K., be my guest bud.

Ok I will bow down to your light. I am stupid and your light is better. My light blinds everyone on the road. I should toss that thing in the trash as soon as possible and got spend $130 on your setup your pointed out. Thanks for showing me the "LIGHT"
