gxl rear diff (vlsd)

i got a question i have been searching and didnt find anything relating to what i want sooo....i have a 1988 gxl rear diff with the vlsd...would i be able to swap in a open diff with no problems? like change the ring gear and reset it back into my stock housing and use my axle stubs? or would i need a whole new rear diff?

88 has a clutch type lsd(which is better than the vlsd garbage). 89+ had the vlsd.

Yes, all n/a FC's use the same housings, so you can swap internals between them. Turbo's(obviously) use a different housing/differential.
